Battery – When you have a device with a dual power source, you are not likely to ever run out of power with good planning. Its compact and modern design makes it comfortable and easy to handle walkie talkie. Moreover, its yellowdesign will mean you never lose sight of it. The T800 Extreme is one of the newer range of walkie talkies Motorola are pitching as the future. The sleek, lightweight design is in line with that modern outlook. Frequency spectra are somewhat arbitrary groups selected to some extent for the benefit of regulators, but VHF is 136-174 MHz and immediately above it is UHF at 400 to 512 MHz. This makes them better able to penetrate structure, so people sometimes think of UHF as ‘more powerful.’

T800 TALKABOUT How to: Setting up the app - Motorola

It's not overly small and light, but it's not big and heavy either. The battery life isn't amazing, but it's decent enough. It's claimed to be water-resistant, but there's no IP rating. You get the idea: there's nothing exceptional about this walkie-talkie, but if this is the price you were aiming at, it offers good value overall. The casing is made of durable plastic material that is made to withstand rough handling and weather. All the ports (for connecting earpiece or charging cables) are sealed with rubber flaps to prevent water, dust, snow, etc, from getting into it. The display, though small, can be read clearly. It shows the transmission information, battery indicator, and frequency. Family Radio Service is an FCC defined set of channels – 22 + 8 for repeaters – shared with GMRS, however FRS does not require a license as it is limited to lower power. These channels are 462-467 MHz UHF.. The range though was not impressive. Beyond a thousand yards, it was difficult getting hold of my new friends over the walkie talkie. In most situations though, the distance between us was never up to a thousand yards so receiving or sending out messages was never a problem.

On the left side of the radio are four buttons. Two of these are dedicated push-to-talk (PTT) buttons for high and low power transmissions respectively. The other two are the flashlight on/off switch (the flashlight is located at the top) and emergency button. As for the AA batteries, they powered the radio the whole day without getting a low battery warning from the walkie talkie. That was nice. I think USB charging should be the default charging mode of all outdoors 2-way communication devices. It is so flexible. You don’t have to worry about how or where to charge as long as a power source with a USB port is near you. Other features This particular radio is compatible with nearly all PMR446 walkie talkies, and benefits from free calls to a distance of up to 10km so that you can stay connected.

Without that time gap, testing the T460 wouldn’t feel like something new. Because from experience, walkie talkie models from the same manufacturers usually share several features and functions it can be hard telling them apart. The built-in flashlight helped to illuminate the path ahead of me. In that situation though, I wished the beam was super bright. It barely showed the way ahead up to a few feet only. The T460 is a compact, rugged, lightweight radio you could use for many outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, skiing fishing, etc. Figuring that they needed pairing could be a tad difficult if you don’t read the manual carefully. In any event, pairing the devices was a walk in the park once you figure out the button to use.

Go beyond push-to-talk

Even if you run out of power and can’t charge it immediately, you also have the option of using disposable AA batteries. The smart move is to get as many disposable batteries as possible so you won’t be caught off-guard power-wise. The European equivalent of FRS, PMR stands for Private Mobile Radio and covers 16 channels around 446MHz. The frequencies aren’t exactly the same, which is why you’ll rarely find the same model numbers for Europe and America from big-name manufacturers like Motorola. This is a method of determining the location of a walkie talkie, which isn’t easy, making them relatively private in this regard. Triangulation can only be done when the talkie is turned on because it is broadcasting radio waves. This is unlike, say, a mobile phone which is always broadcasting a pulse so that the network knows where to find you, plus probably sends a GPS location via an app which, again, a walkie talkie doesn’t do. We used the USB charging cables to charge the device overnight via a mobile power bank. By the time we left for the day’s activities the next morning, the batteries were at 100%. I’ll say you need about 8 hours to go from zero to 100%.

All 30 GMRS channels, including the 8 repeater channels, are supported in receive and transmit modes, and dual PTT buttons make it easy to take advantage of the semi-duplex function. This monitors two channels at once, giving priority to the one with an active call. I ended up offering to help them set the T800s up. Part of the whole ‘help out’ was that I got to use one of the four sets they bought for two days. Equipped with NOAA weather alerts, this radio keeps users informed about changing weather conditions and emergencies. It also features an integrated LED flashlight, which can be handy in low-light situations. The T800 two-way radio works just like every other radio by sending information using radio frequencies to keep you connected while off-grid. The secret to the T800 is once your smartphone is connected to your radio over Bluetooth, the TALKABOUT smartphone app enables communication options beyond push-to-talk. The TALKABOUT app uses the T800 as a modem to send messages, locations and more over the radio frequencies to your fellow T800 users. With enhanced communication and more information you enjoy unrivaled connectivity for peace of mind off the cellular grid. I loved the way it was easy to hold the device. The grip was nice and allowed me to operate the buttons easily. It didn’t matter that on some occasions, I had to use gloves. Despite the name, these offer no protection from eavesdropping; when you broadcast with a walkie talkie it is not encrypted. Instead you can agree on a tone (which you won’t be able to hear yourself) which will tell your handset which is the preferred signal. It has a modern design and it’s orange stripe means that it’s difficult to lose, the handset is light and has hidden display which only lights up when you need it.

Motorola Talkabout T800 Review - Talkie Man

I finally got round to piecing together the Motorola T460 review a few weeks after the T600 review. It took a few weeks coming because my head needed clearing of everything T600. I think Motorola did a good job with the battery. It is pretty solid. The rechargeable battery lasted way above the stated the 10 hours battery life the day we stayed out really late. This could be because the device wasn’t in constant use. The T82 Extreme gives you free communications because it does not require subscriptions or licenses. On the negative side though, the headsets posted a less than average performance. That could be linked to the fact that the VOX feature was not so great. While trying the hands-free feature, the audio was terrible for us. I don’t think it was specific to my own device as the others had the same problem. The Motorola T82 is free to use, resistant and practical. It’s ideal for professionals or for leisure activity enthusiasts. It can be used outdoors, indoors, in environments such as shops, sports centres, water parks and more! This version has the functionvibrating alertto work without disturbing andof iVOX feature. You can enjoy hands-free communication.
