Description

The license plate uses a new technique, stickers on a window pane, which makes it quite hard to remove, but makes it look sleeker.

LEGO 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine is a 1,872 piece Icons set with 2 minifigs released in 2022. There were rumours that what turned out to be last year’s 10290 Pick-up Truck was going to be a large scale DeLorean and as much as I like that burgundy beauty, the DMC really does hold a nostalgic place in my heart as a direct result of ‘The Back To The Future Trilogy’. Once the instructions start, the black background for the pages is replaced with a dark grey, making assembly easier to follow.More movie, complete with a light-up flux capacitor, a box of plutonium, Marty’s hoverboard as well as LEGO minifigure versions of Doc Brown and Marty McFly. The light is bright and noticeable, and having it as press-to-activate play feature means you’re not in danger of accidentally leaving it on to drain the battery. Never before has a particular model of a car been so synonymous with an iconic movie (except maybe Herbie) and the Back to the Future films and Delorean cars have been forever intertwined since Back to the Future hit the silver screen in 1985. The flux dispersal bands are attached to the ‘C’ pillars and again I'm marvelling at how accurately all these shapes reflect the Time Machine. The DMC logo would become DWC if applied upside down, and as the slope is mounted at 90° that might be a very easy mistake to make.

Build 1 of 3 options - Version 1 includes a lightning rod and plutonium chamber, version 2 features Mr. The first is a new trapezoidal windscreen in transparent-clear, and the second is a new 2×4 sloped triangular roof tile. More DeLorean joins a series of existing Back to the Future LEGO sets including a minifigure-scale time machine, a pair of Brickheadz, and a couple of Dimensions packs. The changeable license plates are a nice touch (again, with stickers) but I do find it hard to chance them out. The crucial flux capacitor makes use of a minifigure grappling hook to replicate the necessary shapes.

The DeLorean consists of almost 1900 parts and comes with 2 exclusive minifigures, namely Marty McFly and Doc Brown. The side profile really shows off just how well designer Sven Franic captures the car’s iconic slopes and angles, which is incredibly satisfying to see.

You’d think they’d want the box to have shelf-appeal from all sides, and the lack of any logos caught me by surprise. You can see some exclusive pictures of DeLorean prototypes as well as other possible solutions for the slope on our Facebook or Instagram feeds.

As a nice treat to the builder, the red hubcaps are attached with both orange and brushed-silver 1×1 round plate. Shield your LEGO® LEGO® Back to the Future Time Machine set against being knocked and damaged for peace of mind.
