There isn’t a lot of time to explain what’s going on. We don’t even get an explanation as to how the wires cross, but that doesn’t matter. All that matters is that we have these two characters who try to help each other. While Lily looks to save Matt, he wants her to know that the war she’s fighting is one the Allies can win. There’s a connection that you wouldn’t think possible with two people from different time periods. A short story that is crammed with all sorts of goodies. I liked it from beginning to end. Both characters despite their different timelines were likable and interesting. Perhaps, you remember the movie, The Final Countdown which came out in 1980. It was about the battleship Nimitz, which was propelled into the past and appeared in the fight in World War 2. It was one I did like. Water will either freeze or boil in the tanks, they need to be thermally regulated before drinking. Just opening the tank would cause the water to boil off without atmospheric pressure. When there was a war on, and when your part in it was so deadly serious it sometimes kept you from sleeping at night, there was really nothing to do but make jokes about it all. It was either make jokes or start weeping at your desk, so Lily made jokes. Recently a group of students from the College of New Jersey are attempting to bounce signals off the moon using the LoRa modulation scheme. LoRa is a modulation scheme designed to be used with IoT devices, however it also has great performance when signals are weak so it's a good candidate for moon bounce. This leads to a story of two people communicating across time. Of course, they don’t want to initially believe it’s possible, but how else can they explain everything? The question is whether Matt can find a way to keep himself and his fellow colleagues alive in the coming battle. She worries about the outcome of WW2 and whether her friends will survive on the battlefield. Will the allies be defeated by enemy forces, and does her work have any value? She just wrote until her hand burned and listened til her ears bled, the entire person and essence of the Honorable Lily Baines stripped down to a pair of ears and a pair of hands.
