Tate & Lyle Sugars has launched a low-calorie Sucralose Sweetener to offer consumers choice more when it comes to preparing drinks, and sprinkling on breakfast favourites, all without the need to compromise on taste, perceived indulgence or to spend more. Sandra Gonilho, marketing manager, for Tate & Lyle Sugars, said: “As sugar innovators since 1878, we understand everything there is to know about creating the perfect sweetness for your coffee, or sprinkling on your cereal and desserts. The British brand, experts in sweetness, worked tirelessly to ensure the product meets key consumer needs, which include being able to dissolve the sweetener easily in hot drinks, avoid frothing, a texture close to real cane sugar and to make for simple sprinkling over dishes such as cereal and fruit. The resultant product dissolved easily in hot drinks without frothing and had a similar texture to real cane sugar, it added. Ensure that the motor is securely attached to the chassis by trying to move the coupler side-to-side with the hopper removed. If it is loose, tighten it and retest.

According to Tate & Lyle marketing manager Sandra Gonilho: “We’ve seen a growing trend towards consumers regularly opting for sweetener.” If this examination is inconclusive the motor may need to be removed for closer examination. If the rotary encoder is loose the motor assembly will have to be replaced. Verify that the auger is clean and is able to move freely by removing the hopper and manually rotating the auger. This share is growing year on year, for example, sales of our existing food service-led sweetener brand have grown by 300% in volume compared to pre-Covid-19 levels, with this sales trend expected to continue as consumers remain focused on exercising greater control of their diets.”Note: In newer models the coupler can only be installed with the clamping screw parallel to the flat side of the shaft. The pouch format is more concentrated to offer a cost saving, meaning consumers need to use less product to deliver the same amount of sweetness. The dispense auger is powered by a motor with a turning shaft. To avoid possible injury or equipment damage, keep hands and objects clear of the auger and shaft when equipment is plugged in. This trend was “expected to continue as consumers remain focused on exercising greater control of their diets,” Gonilho added.Unless otherwise specified in the procedure, the dispenser should be unplugged from its electrical source before servicing.

The dispenser includes a microcontroller and must be operated on grounded electrical wiring at all times. Ensure that the motor coupler is securely attached to the motor shaft by removing the hopper and twisting it. If the coupler is firmly attached, the motor/gearbox can be heard and felt to rotate. If it is loose it may rotate freely or pull off easily and should be corrected by tightening the coupler attachment screw. If the coupler does not rotate smoothly and freely then it is possible that the motor/gearbox assembly is damaged and may need to be replaced. To verify this, re-position the coupler by loosening and retightening it as described in the note above. If the coupler is still unable to turn then the motor assembly may have to be replaced.
