London-based author James Swallow has written about science fiction, games and oriental media for more than sixty different publications, and has written scripts for the TV show Star Trek: Voyager. As the book goes on, we're treated to glimpses inside a fascinating society, great battles and a tense chase before things really start to get nasty. The imagery is outlined to just the precise level of detail to allow the reader to imagine and construct his own vision of the settings which I find is very rarely achieved, that perfect balance between what is said and is allowed to be imagined is perfectly struck. Of course I understand that the point is to distinguish the marines from the men, but it still comes across as very stilted and clumsy.

Sure, he doesn’t get virus bombed like Loken and Tarvitz, but the latter two get a release in that, a finality. It is still a great read to follow and see what happened aboard the Eisenstein after the events of Isstvan III. Keeler and the gang are back, but don't take centre stage, nonetheless they're used well as background characters - there to keep the plot moving but not stealing the limelight. It's still not high art, but considering how puerile and simplistic they might have been, I was very pleasantly surprised. This said I definitely enjoyed the book, devouring it almost entirely in one train journey, and I'm looking forward to the next few installments in the series.

Anyway, I would say that I had grown very fond of The Sons of Horus and The Emperor's Children, but without a doubt by the end of 'The Flight' I had become very much attached to The Death Guard also. As with any series, there are a few intriguing threads that will doubtlessly be picked up elsewhere but apart from that it's another tremendous effort in the line.Tarvitz tells Garro of the imminent Virus Bombing and after commanding the Eisenstein to fire on the traitors pursuing Tarvitz to the surface he moves to deal with Grulgor and his men. Along similar lines I was bothered that FOTE began before the events of Galaxy in Flames, which is not immediately a problem, however knowing that the Eisenstein is going to get away doesn't really justify 60% of the book's page time to essentially repeat a large chunk of Galaxy in Flames from a slightly different perspective.

These are amazing action novels dripping with emotion and sentiment that also sometimes piss me off because of the double-crossing and backstabbing, even though by now I should know what to expect. The Flight of the Eisenstein is book four in the Horus Heresy series and it’s a dark, atmospheric and brooding tale.Das tut dem Werk sehr gut, und so liegt mit "Flight of the Eisenstein" ein spannender Teil der Horus Heresy-Reihe vor. Solid read in "The Horus Heresy", although almost half of the book retells the story of the superior "Galaxy of Flames".

An interesting feature that I picked up in this book, or at least took note of for the first time, was that corpses reanimated by the Warp apparently can maintain their memories. A bit of a slower pace with this one as we get to see events from the previous book from a different perspective. There Solun Decius gives in to the poison in his body and is transformed into The Lord of the Flies and rampages through the fortress, fighting Garro's men and Sisters of Silence alike until Garro finally kills him in the desert of Luna's surface. The Saint however is really starting to develop nicely and you can feel the church of the Emperor starting to pick up momentum. I tried the Kindle version because the trade paperback editions are out of circulation and was happy with the formatting and ease of use.
