Haf was a great character, kind hearted and has learn to be unapologetic about who she is yet there’s still parts of her that dragged her down which added great balance. A book that will definitely become part of my regular read again pile, particularly once Christmas approaches. The dialogue in this book made me want to pack up my life and fly to England to find the author and befriend them. Eigentlich ein klassischer Fake-Dating-Trope, aber mit Twist: Haf und Christopher tun so, als ob sie zusammen sind, um Christophers Familie zufrieden zu stellen und nervigen Nachfragen zu entgehen. You are immediately thrown into her Christmas dilemma and her life which I like in a book, you become invested very early on. I truly cannot describe how special and rare it is to be able to tell my sister that not only is the protagonist bi like her, but is also proudly fat, wears big stompy Docs, and is in her 20s without knowing she’s neurodivergent (this last aspect of her identity gets discussed in the author’s note!the lgbt representation centred throughout the book is nothing but incredible; includes an autistic bisexual plus-sized woman, a disabled lesbian, a non-binary person, and a bisexual man. This book centres queer, disabled and fat people with such honesty and care and humour, and getting to see them be these wonderful and desirable romantic leads just makes my heart so very happy. In addition, there’s an amazing baby reindeer scene which is guaranteed to leave everyone laughing, as well as fab disability and LGBTQ+ representation.

Perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Laura Kay and Carol—this is sheer festive joy as you've always wanted to see it.I had to unwrap this lovely kindle present early because I needed cheering up, and it really hit the spot! Why Kit and Haf feel the need to pretend they’ve never crossed paths before I’m not sure but it definitely adds tension so I’ll take it. This book hits a few tropes - fake relationship, rich girl/poor girl - as well as starring a plus-sized heroine alongside a disabled love interest.

They are the editor of Stim, an anthology of autistic authors and artists, which was published by Unbound in April 2020 to coincide with World Autism Awareness Week. To save her new friend from embarrassment – and with no better plans of her own – Haf agrees to go along with the ruse. The Cannonball-veteran (the only participant - as far as I know - who has participated every year since CBRII).Haf and Ambrose have a comfortable relationship where they can talk about food, and as a fat-and-thin friendship pairing it was important for me to show that, in the same way that Haf is loving and supportive of Ambrose’s transness.

She gets up to some serious shenannegans without even meaning to and I found myself laughing and covering my face with second hand embarrassment so many times (audio book superiority for me to do this and keep reading the book). Definitely not now because in my mid-30s I’m very happy with my own company and my dog and my charcuterie boards and stash of video games, but maybe in my early 20s when I was a chaos monster with nothing better to do and no money? One of the main selling points of the book, for me as an autistic person, is that the main character has undiagnosed autism. I have not reviewed a book before but felt the need after listening to a book that is absolute perfection. I was actually thrilled to see Ambrose and Laurel and Christopher there at the end for the HEA moment, when I usually hate love declarations with an audience.I’m so happy it exists and so grateful to have read it and would love your thoughts if you check it out too!
