Tomás Hijo, Artist: Tomás Hijo was born in Spain. He is an illustrator and professor of illustration at the University of Salamanca in Spain. He has illustrated more than seventy books and written ten of them, most of which are related to legends and folklore. With printmaking as his technique of choice, his works belong to private collections all around the world, including Guillermo del Toro’s and Mike Mignola’s. His work has been exhibited in many galleries through Europe and the United States. His interest in the works of H. P. Lovecraft led to the birth of Nictonomicon, a collection of prints that has attracted the interest of the most important people in the field. Hijo received the Best Artwork Award from the Tolkien Society in 2015 in recognition of his works about J. R. R. Tolkien’s books. I was surprised to see that there was no review available for the Lord of the Rings Tarot, so I decided to write one myself.All players begin as Free People of Middle-earth and embark on a journey towards Mount Doom in the hope of destroying The One Ring. The Journey is represented as the placing of cards from your hands onto the Journey Pile (discard pile). As soon as one player runs out of cards, the group of players will reach Mount Doom. Players will be influenced along the way by forces from Middle-earth and some players may be pulled in by the Dark Forces to help Sauron take control of the Ring. This can be achieved by playing Dark Forces Cards and earning Dark Points. Fanciful characters and scenes from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy and 'The Hobbit' appear on each of the 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards. Rules are included for a card game for 2-6 players, ages 10 to adult.
