Description

Instead of showing us their interaction as they are pretending to be a couple and outrageously flirting with each other, our author just tells us that happened. No dialogue, just a paragraph saying, “Yup, we did this.” And what’s worst is this is the first time these two have supposedly acted romantic with each other, even if it is an act. You would think that would warrant an actual scene rather than just a drive by, half paragraph, surmising. This is said paragraph: Alana is marrying Alejandro but not for love. She is marrying to save her father’s life. She will never love this monster of a man. Bow down to this king? Never. He growls and shouts unnecessarily which leads me to question if our author actually imagined what the scenes she creates look like? Because half the time, how our characters are depicted to say a line, does not match the feeling of the scene or the pre developed emotions thrumming the scene along. You growl when you’re frustrated, as a sexual thing, annoyed- something. Nothing that makes sense and has already been established leads to this man growling. It just comes off as weird and as if you just heard that growling men are a thing in erotic novels so you make your male protagonist growl for any nonsense that happens or doesn’t happen or make sense. Like he’s a damn werewolf or something. All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate. A few hours later, the three of us were sitting on the patio. We’d eaten a beautiful lunch and Maria had regaled me with dozens of stories of Alejandro as a child. He had rolled his eyes throughout and admonished her for the more embarrassing ones, but she had simply laughed and told him not to be so grumpy.

He assumed she was another spoiled Princess. Little does he know, Alana Carmichael is going to prove his assumptions wrong at every turn. She is empathetic, smart, stunning, sexy and so strong. “Alejandro Montoya might be the devil, but he was also a sex god. If my body was built for sin, then his was built for pleasure. And I couldn’t get enough of him. So, if he wanted no panties, than no panties would be what he’d get .” 😉 This book was hard to put down, I was totally engaged the whole time AND that ending has me asking all sorts of questions !!!! I swallowed as they drew nearer. What if she hated me? What if she was one of those mothers who never thought anyone was good enough for her son? Why the hell did I even care? This is sold as hate to love. Problem: There’s no actual hate. There’s no reason to dislike each other. Neither know a thing about the other. While they both internal dialogue how much they dislike the other, there’s 1) no reasoning 2) their actions don’t match. They’re civil, respectful, even kind to each other all while internally reminding how much they dislike each other’s sexy asses or shouldn’t (FFS why?) actually give realness to the marriage. All of Ms. Kincaid’s stories fill the romance story requirements very well with an abundance of HEA or HFN. He is fierce and unyielding. I should hate him. But, the way he looks at me makes me feel more alive than I’ve ever felt before, and his touch sets my skin on fire.

I’d left Alana my credit card that morning, and while I’d told her that I didn’t care how much of my money she spent, I did want to know exactly what I might be walking into later. But I am not just any woman. I am Alana Carmichael and I’m only here to save my father. I will not bow to any king. He’s what? A big, bad mafia king refined to play the part of a wealthy business man. He sounds like neither. He sounds like a middle-aged woman’s creation of such. His character’s voice and mannerisms sound like the author, not his proposed character. Alana agreed to marry Alejandro to help her father out. she didn't like Alejandro one bit but as time goes on he is not what she believes he is.

And as I uncover the secrets of our pasts, I discover that monsters are not always what they seem. Sometimes, the real monsters look like ordinary men. Alejandro Montoya is the King of the LA underworld. Alana Carmichael has just become his wife. It was good for business, he needed an heir and she was trying to keep her father out of prison. In Sadie's books, the romance is fierce and often at the heart of the story. Characters like Ryan, who appears in several books including "Chicago Ruthless", are often found wrestling with their feelings while navigating treacherous situations. In the first of Ms. Kincaid’s Ruthless series, all located in large cities, London Ruthless starts with Dark Angel. Gabriel Sullivan is a calculating, ruthless man, at the top of his game. Always getting what he wants, he moves in a dark, dangerous world and he’s at the top of his game.HOT DAMN!! Sadie Kincaid totally channelled her “Inner Sex Goddess” when she was writing this book! Alejandro Montoya is so damn hot, even the Devil won’t let him in the gates!! How frugal of this Manhattan city girl! The ketchup gets me…lol, as if you don’t have a whole cook. But alas… Alejandro Montoya is the type of “boy” my mama always warned me to stay away from! The thing is ... he’s not just another “boy.” He is SEXY! He is RUTHLESS! He is ALL MAN! I was pretty much hooked from the start and couldn't read fast enough to find out what happens next. Jessie has one thing she wants most in life and, finally, she is that close to getting it. Now the Ryan brothers are stopping her from her dream. But Jessie is a tornado, unstoppable, and she’s going to wreak destruction on the Ryans. She has secrets and a past. She can be their undoing or she could be their redemption.

This book will never be finished. The writing is not good, the premise, story, or characters- it just wasn’t good. Alana is a good person, I like at least that about her. But I’m unable to fall into that because, even if it’s not from Alana’s perspective, the author is truly overdoing it with trying to depict Alana like “she’s not other girls” through Alejandro’s perspective. It ruins it. Like, we don’t need comparison for her to be a wonderful person that Alejandro didn’t expect. But alas, instead of showing us through beautiful language, plot and writing, that author finds the basic-est way to “prove” that Alana isn’t… For our part, Alejandro and I had played the adoring couple, and I took the opportunity to flirt outrageously with him every chance I got.”Alejandro is a violent criminal who dominates the Underworld and he marries Alana for a business deal, his father forces him into. As she gets to know this stranger, this powerful man, a gradual awareness comes over her that maybe he isn’t the total monster she has been led to believe he is. Their shared secrets of their pasts leads her to discover he may be an ordinary man and possibly worthy of her attention.
