So what does this mean if you’re a musician or a technician? Well, thanks to something called RTP-MIDI, it’s possible to send MIDI data over an Ethernet network; LOTS of MIDI data in actual fact.

New to mioXL : store and recall up to 32 presets directly on the interface, without even needing a computer! Our unique network technology is as easy to use as USB! Enjoy your new-found MIDI power without extra headaches. Simply drop a mioXL or mioXM anywhere you have physical MIDI I/O, run an Ethernet cable from each device to an Ethernet switch, connect the switch to your computer and BAM! Everything can talk to everything else! Connect all your MIDI devices (USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI, RTP/Network-MIDI) and Mac, PC, and iOS computing devices to each other, and let this rugged, versatile interface put you in control of your MIDI devices and workflow. Ethernet connectivity means MIDI is on the network wherever you need it. Regular USB connectivity limits you to keeping your interface within 15ft of your computer. Ethernet connectivity gives you up to 330ft / 100m connection between you and your interface. Drop an interface in every room of your studio, or place an interface virtually anywhere in a venue.

Introducing a new version of our Auracle control software: taking the simplicity of workflow that the original Auracle introduced but now with the added deep configuration functionality that we’ve become known for. All the deep configuration options you asked for: MIDI merging, filtering, remapping, and deep routing are all there and super easy to use. Presets onboard: Even the most basic tasks need to be done right; it’s surprising how many of our competitors interfaces get it wrong. We engineered mioXC, from the ground up to, to be the interface we’d want to use ourselves. The iConnectivity mioXL USB MIDI Interface is a revolutionary device that will change the way you think about sound. For years, musicians have been limited by their instruments and equipment as it pertains to what they can produce on stage or in the studio because of how far away those things were from each other physically. Now with this new interface linking your house full-on original instrument up wirelessly so both musician AND listener become partakers. I absolutely hate the fact that they changed the 10x10 DIN port arrangement from the mio10 to the 8x12 setup on the mioXL. They say this was due to customer/market research and "what people wanted" but I never heard or saw anything like that and given that a lot of people want to be able to use editors/librarians with their gear, a full pair of in AND out ports are kinda important there... Because of that I don't use any of those last 4 output ports anyway, and hence the reason I still have two mio10s in my setup - those two units are physically placed in locations where I need that full 10 DIN pairs...GRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Having the onboard USB hub has been invaluable though.

For me Midi has always kind of been a one way deal where a synth or sequencer sent out Data and using Thru ports or splitter boxes you could send that to several devices. Or using merge boxes you could merge several devices down to one. iConnectivity's unique network technology is as easy to use as USB! Enjoy your new-found MIDI power without extra headaches. With mioXL you're able to streamline and expand your MIDI setup, no matter how massive and demanding. Even though it's iConnectivity's most powerful MIDI interface, mioXL is still accessible to all users, allowing you to do whatever you want with MIDI faster, better, and in creative and exciting new ways. As time went on, my home studio grew more complex.. and device heavy. I've got a bunch of synths (some of which no longer play well with Windows via USB, due to old drivers), an Alesis strike pro drum kit, guitar amps which support midi, various effects pedals that support midi, so on.. and so forth. MIDI, especially over USB, was just an endless nightmarish frustration when trying to record. The Plug and Play connection is a unique feature of mioXL that allows you to plug in any device without the need for installation. This eliminates time consuming installations, CD-ROMs scratching your computer's hard drive - it just works with no hassle at all thanks our class compliant networking capabilities. I never had to think about anything. Patch any MIDI cables or anything. It just worked. Everything talked to everything and I didn't even have to think about it. My Mio was simply doing it's thing happily being ignored by me. ETA: My brain was misremembering on the Mio10 - USB 1-4 is a port to DAW while 5-10 were a single port in the DAW. Connect all your MIDI devices (USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI, Ethernet-MIDI) to each other and Mac, PC, and iOS computing devices and let this rugged, versatile interface put you in control of your MIDI devices and workflow. Use your 22 network MIDI ports anyway you want. Connect each of the 22 RTP-MIDI sessions to any combination of physical or virtual I / O ports. Almost any combination is possible.

Connect all your MIDI devices (USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI, RTP / Network-MIDI) and Mac, PC, and iOS computing devices to each other, and let this rugged, versatile interface put you in control of your MIDI devices and workflow. Con's: Documentation is limited to a few short instructional video's, You can only access 15 of the 22 inputs/outputs from your Windows based DAW, and a Factory Reset was required to get it to recognize certain class compliant USB MIDI controllers after a firmware upgrade erasing all my settings. Certain class compliant USB devices may not be recognized. For example it does not see my Conductive Labs NDLR so I had to connect it to a DIN input and output. If you receive a unit with early firmware (in my case my unit had version 1.0 firmware), it's possible that the latest Auracle (v1.83 when I was working this out) on Win10 will detect the unit and inform you that you need to update the firmware before setting things up. However, I could not get the firmware updater to work using Auracle 1.83. Originally designed to provide robust and reliable network communication in event of nuclear war (no, we’re not making it up), network connection of computing devices is something which is now part of everyday life. Chances are you’re using it to read this blog piece, right now. When it works, it works; offers extraordinary routing options and opportunities. The hardware feels solidly built and touch-screen adjustment make the smallish display surprisingly versatile. There's a generous amount of physical input & output and my studio still has room to grow even with all the DIN & USB gadgets connected. It's not cheap but it certainly seems good value for money.

With the Mio's you really create a Midi Network. It's actually a router that allows everything to talk to everything. How game changing is that?
