Kuba (Poland) really prepared well for his last turn show – not only conquering the fort but also delivering 16 strength attack, There was not much for me (last in turn) to do except for conquering one of the Kuba’s cities – a bitter-sweet end! Cities fully surrounded by control tokens become “mature” and start to produce trade goods on a regular basis. At it’s heart, the game revolves around the rather cool but nonetheless simple Focus Bar mechanic, which is a 5-space bar that sits in front of you and has five distinct terrain types numbered 1 to 5 along the top (Grassland, Hills, Forest, Desert, and Mountain). It’s almost like the map is too big… you never really have a problem accomplishing the victory conditions in your little corner of the map. There is a suggested layout for your first game outing, but after that you can create any custom map you desire for countless combinations and replay-ability.

Anyway, as far as the components actually included in the game, I’m very satisfied with the quality. Component quality is good, even though I am not that fond of the artwork borrowed from Civilization VI; keep on reading.The caravan minis are a nice touch but severely underused on the board as I feel like they are the weakest of all the cards in the game. Anyways after all that you then can spend trade tokens that you have acquired to increase that value even more. In fact, A New Dawn is one of the worst case of failed expectations that I have experienced gamewise. No longer are players caught unaware of some stray control token that threatens their entire empire.As mentioned before, the artwork and design is great, with time and effort being put into making this feel like a tribute to its gaming ancestor from the 90s. Players race to become the first to accomplish one agenda on each of these victory cards, spreading throughout the world and ensuring their civilization�s place as the greatest world power.
