Armistice Runner’ is a moving and inspirational story fromTom Palmer, who is something of a master when it comes to sport-themed writing. All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you! A beautifully-written book which follows Lily as she faces one of the toughest challenges of her life, losing her beloved grandmother to Alzheimer's.

I found the grandad and the Captain the most interesting because their stories aren’t the normal ones you read about. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. He travels all over the UK visiting schools and working with charities, and is well loved across the book trade. This is the story of Lily, a young fell runner who has been struggling in her races recently, as she goes to visit her grandparents and must come to terms with the way her gran`s Alzheimers is worsening. The chapter in the story which most stands out for me is how the different characters that like running and different sports show their emotions through running (this makes them try and fight harder to get what they want).

This is a thoughtful book and ideal for introducing children to the history of the First World War and would be an excellent prompt for discussion on a wide range of topics including dementia, loyalty and forgiveness. I think it was interesting because when I did WW2 and WW1 in Year 6, we focused on Anne Frank, Winston Churchill, and Adolf Hitler who are all quite famous so it was really interesting to read it from a normal person’s point of view and what happened to them. The characters and emotional aspect between the girl and her grandma suffering from dementia is well-written. He has worked around the UK and the world for the National Literacy Trust, the British Council, the Reading Agency, Reading Force, the Premier League, the FA and England Rugby.I also thought that the gran disappearing was a bit random and a bit out of place in the book as it wasn’t really an action book, so it was a bit weird. Sheʼs struggling to compete in her fell-running races and, worse, sheʼs losing her gran to Alzheimerʼs. Palmer has crafted an emotional story spanning several generations, and you'll want to be there, right to the finish line. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in World War One fiction and who like reading books which change from diary entries to writing about real life in a family.

Tom's scrapbooks are always fascinating, full of photographs, notes and snippets of history that inspire his books, and this one is no different! Overall, I think this book is a great read with accurate and interesting facts relevant to the time period. It is a good introduction to WWI, and it is relatable for teenagers as the family story and having an ancestor who fought in the war runs through many British children's families.Knowing that many cross-country and fell runners went to fight in the First World War, the story started there. As with all truly great children's books it's one that adults will enjoy sharing too, potentially prompting grown-ups to share their own family's history and involvement with the World Wars with their children, thus preserving those stories for another generation. He always expected more than she could actually produce and it seemed that his main goal in life was to bring his own daughter down when actually he should be doing the opposite and trying to make her feel good about herself. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. I enjoyed this book as I was intrigued the whole time and it gripped my attention by using the great-grandfather’s and daughters past to join them together.
