Description

Savannah Dubrinsky is the daughter of the Dark Prince. She wants her independence and isn't interested in answering to an ancient, bossy, control freak vampire that is claiming to be her life mate. Savannah is young and somewhat naive, but she has spunk and refuses to do Gregori's bidding without a fight. They must learn to trust each other to work together, which isn’t easy since the High Court is built on deceit and lies. This hunt begins an exciting adventure with supernatural creatures, assassins and more. It is one of the foundational examples of grimoire, a textbook on magic, groundbreaking for its time and nearly encyclopedic in its information. Scot’s research included consulting dozens of previous thinkers on various topics such as occult, science and magic, including Agrippa von Nettesheim’s “ De Occulta Philosophia,” in 1531 and John Dee’s “Monas Hieroglyphica” in 1564. The result is a most impressive compendium. The heavens, as used in witchcraft. “The Discoverie of Witchcraft,” P. 283. Rare Book & Special Collections. There’s many many things to say about magic , voodoo &…. but never the less, although there could be powers with spells and magic acts and most people think like;(ok, what’s the bad thing if i be able to use the power for good!) James Swain's Dark Magic could be compared to the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, but the latter delivers on magic, action, detective plots and strong character development much better and I'd recommend it over Dark Magic anytime. It's also wonderfully read by James Marsters.

To put it simply, i hated him. If I wanted a misogynistic love story about a guy, stalking, forcing and guilt-tripping a woman into being with him and dubious consent on the heroine's part... i'd watch the news. I had started this book, wondering why it'd been nearly 5 years since i've read a Feehan novel and this reminded me why. Gregori was amazing. I loved how he started to let go of his caveman tendencies because he just wanted her to be happy. Savannah was a cute, funny heroine. And she definitely held her ground with him.. She had some pretty good one-liners in there too.

After resisting his domineering ways and getting over her fear of him, Savannah reaches out to him and teaches him that he is not the monster he believes himself to be.

Dark Magic had an interesting premise, which had me interested. A cat and mouse chase with the prince of hell himself, with possible enemies to lovers sidestory, sounded really good! But in the end I was mostly left disappointed. Because the premise and what I actually got in the book felt like two different things. Then there's the fifteen thousand strange but intriguing enemies that almost continuously make an appearance—them, I would've liked to see more of, but it feels like they were just thrown in with the kitchen sink. I recommend this to readers who enjoy Greek mythology with a darker twist, paranormal fantasy and FMC who is unshakeable and bold! They get together every Friday night to connect with the spirit world, to find out if there is anything bad going to happen. Well, anything big and bad. They live in New York City, after all. Something small and bad is always happening. The Friday Night Psychics are trying to prevent major catastrophes.

Herzig, Tamar (Winter 2011). "The Demons and the Friars: Illicit Magic and Mendicant Rivalry in Renaissance Bologna". Renaissance Quarterly. 64 (4): 1025–1058. doi: 10.1086/664084. S2CID 162081348. I absolutely loved this! I've read a lot of good books this year so far, & this is definitely in my top 3. In this, we're introduced to Primrose Titan, the Goddess of Death and Queen of the Underworld. Enter the calamity. Lucifer, King of Demons, who escapes from his cage in hell. His escape is what prompts the story. Prim is paired up with Atlas, God of Ice & one-half of the Grimm Brothers, to kill Lucifer. Neither is happy about this, but the story gets juicier & juicier from there. i felt like it was really jarring that the goddess of death basically talked like a 24 year old! i really wanted her to be more ancient! also the way she dresses! i know it’s so minor but i feel like it really took me out of the story!

Gregori The Dark One is a legend, the most powerful healer and the most ruthless warrior.Gregori was one of the ancients and a true wild Carpathian male with a code of honor and a iron will stronger than a mountain. He had been living a isolated life for centuries holding out for the hope of finding his lifemate and he had been so dead inside that nothing could bring an ounce of feeling in him.In the eyes of others a heartless demon and a monster and sentenced to a lonely existence if it weren`t for Savannah. This man brought tears to my eyes and his shattering pain was so raw that my heart broke so many times.Like Savannah i also thought "Who could possibly live year after year in such an empty void and survive with his soul intact?".His love for Savannah was larger than life and the world and while he always knew they belonged together he always feared for her safety and that someone would take her away from him.His magnificent and passionate way of loving Savannah brought tears to my eyes,i am so happy he finally got his happy ending. From the swamp tour I took a few months ago I learned that, yes people used to stuff their furniture and mattresses with the moss that grows on the trees. However that was about a hundred years ago and they stopped doing it because they never could get all the bugs out and their beds would always be full of biting insects. I really doubt the fellow in the book is that old. If you were a psychic and saw a massive killing about to occur in 4 days would you (a) immediately alert the authorities even though you might risk your own freedom, (b) alert the authorities anonymously as you had been doing previously and hope they paid attention, or (c) go home to think about it, go to sleep and then go to work the next day because, you know, it is a whole 4 days until hundreds of people are killed so you have time? Guess which action Peter, the main character, chose.... Yep, (c).
