Description

Please follow manufacturer’s instructions regarding the SAD lamps. Mind Your Head will not be held accountable for any injuries or misuse of this device. If you're using your lamp to help with the winter blues, bright light in the morning has been shown to be most effective so try that first. For some people, early evening light exposure is beneficial. Once you've found a pattern that's right for you, try to use it around the same time every day. If you are a young person and are worried about your own mental health or the mental health of someone you know, here's how we can help. This guidelines in this section are not medical directions for treating any condition. If your doctor has suggested using light therapy, follow their instructions and discuss any effect with them.

When we are feeling low in mood we may have ways of dealing with it, some of which may be helpful, such as physical activity, having a healthy diet, engaging with friends and family, having a good sleep pattern and enjoying periods of relaxation. Sometimes we may have coping mechanisms that may not necessarily be helpful, like eating a bit more or less, avoiding friends, sleeping more or less, drinking alcohol etc. We need to become more self-aware and possibly seek help when these feelings of low mood and behaviours become ‘the norm’ rather than the exception. Workshops - Mind Your Head staff can deliver primary and secondary workshops around mental health and wellbeing. These workshops can be tailored to respond to current needs. Launched the Wellness Programme and Wellness Together Programme, supporting people who are 18yo and above towards improving their mental health and wellbeing If you think your friend or loved one needs to speak to a professional, then encourage and support them as much as you can to take that first difficult step. Taking those first steps is going to be really hard, so if they are worried and unsure, offer to be with them when they make the phone call, or why not go with them to their appointment? Just knowing they have your support and understanding will be a huge support. Suicide Prevention Once we have accepted you into the service we will plan your first support session with your practitioner within the next 5 working days (unless we are currently have a waiting list). Your initial assessment on the WEMWBS will be used to develop a support plan, identifying individual person-centred goals; activities will be identified on how to achieve these goals. It is often our personal hunches that makes us aware that someone we know might be struggling, even if they say they are fine. In that situation what can you do? https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/depression/about-depression You don't have to be an expert on mental health to talk to someone. Just asking someone how they are can make a big difference. Allowing someone to to talk about things can mean a lot, especially if they have felt they had nobody to talk to. Just knowing you are thinking about them, and that you care, can be a big help. By listening and being supportive they may feel able to open up, and if need be get help. It might not happed straight away, so try not to focus on their feelings too much, just talking about everyday things will help the person to feel normal too. Opening up for the first time about feelings or things that worry us can be a scary thing to do, so be patient. Samaritans: Provides emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide. Know that someone is thinking of you and looking after you, while you are looking after your loved one(s)
