Nemo Switchback Trekking Mattresses : Snowleader

In each of these situations, this is far better than nothing, but it’s still a far cry from being comfortable and warm. We don’t recommend this pad for colder excursions when thermal protection from the ground is needed. But if you’re the type of person who really likes to put in those long days and are content to sleep anywhere your feet will deposit you, look at this pad. As you see, that's more my personal minimalistic and nomadic lifestyle than a shorter recreational hiking tour. And apart from the fact that I keep my stuff easily portable, I don't really plan to walk really long distances with the heavy version. Although no inflatable pad will ever be truly quiet, I’ve found Big Agnes pads to be among the least squeaky I’ve tried. I also like that the Rapide is available in six different sizes so you can dial the fit, weight, and price according to your needs. Even though the valve design with separate inflate and deflate valves is clunkier than some, it makes setting up camp hassle-free. Noteworthy Features

The NeoAir Xtherm ditches the mainstream rectangular shape for a contoured build. This makes it overall more weight-effective, without compromising comfort and it’s a seriously comfortable, seriously lightweight sleeping pad – as an all rounder, the Xtherm is hard to beat, but it ain’t cheap and there are some better value options out there. If temperatures will be less than about 50F, we recommend carrying a sleeping pad to insulate your body from the cold ground. We understand how annoying it is to carry a pad at all when you’re trying to move fast, but at a minimum, we recommend something such as the Gossamer Gear Thinlight Foam Pad 1/8″. It’s not particularly comfortable, but it will provide enough insulation to get you through the night.

For the American market, all Therm-a-Rest sleeping pads are built in the USA, using potentially imported materials. This is a point of pride for the company, as it says it benefits both the environment and product development.

What Other Sleeping Pads Should You Consider?

Dimensions (in.): 66″ x 20″ x 3.5″ (Short) / 72″ x 20″ x 3.5″ (Reg.) / 78″ x 20″ (Long) / 72″ x 25″ x 3.5″ (Reg. Wide) / 78″ x 25″ x 3.5″ (Long Wide) / 72″ x 40″ x 3.5″ (Double) Durable materials: The Xtherm boasts the sturdiest bottom fabric of any pad on this list (70D nylon on the bottom and 30D on top). But even if you’re going to use the heaviest pad on this list, the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Nxt Max Sleeping Pad, you should still be able to run comfortably if the rest of your kit is well thought out, with no redundancy and individual items that have multiple uses for efficiency. So, if you prioritize comfort, you may have to spend a little more time dialing in other parts of your kit. Oh man, you’re going to love the Colorado Trail! And Montana is such a special place, lonely, wild, and beautiful.
