Description

This theme continues over to the mixer section, which now features 6 Sound Colour FX and 14 Beat FX. The additional FX bring the XDJ-RX3 performance capabilities closer to the DJM-900NXS2. While we’re on the subject of the industry standard mixer, the XDJ-RX3 has been sonically tuned to sound closer to the NXS2 mixer. This tuning has resulted in a warmer, well-rounded sound which has an analogue feel and is a less harsh than previous RX models. Tweaking the mixer to suit your needs is now far easier thanks to the improved utility menu which allows you to control fader curves and switch the EQ from the standard level of cut to isolator mode. The headphone monitoring section now has an additional cue button to make use of the Touch Preview function and the AUX input, which made its debut in the RX2, has been retained. In addition to the familiar CDJ layout, the XDJ’s platters each feature four tactile pads to add a more physical element to sets. DJs hit the pads to instantly trigger Hot Cues they’ve prepared in rekordbox, or to set Auto Beat Loops.

x USB ports: Easily switch between DJs and keep the music going with the XDJ-RX3's three USB inputs (two top-loading for USB devices and one for laptop connection), allowing for smooth handovers. Something fairly future proof – I would like my equipment to last a good a couple of years before it gets obsolete or I won’t have a possibility to expand it/make it up to date. All my music is in MP3s (therefore I need ‘digital DJ’ in one form or the other i.e. laptop dependent controller djing/DVS/all in one laptop free unit) but I also will start buying vinyl records and increase this slowly with timeI mean, if I was Pioneer I would built this simple on/off option….if you know what I mean – it makes so much sense (you wouldn’t want the screen to sit there idle and just create unnecessary glare when using only mixer section and turntables in a darker room with ambient lighting everywhere would you?) To create a playlist on to a drive you would first make it in the Rekordbox software, then “Sync” that playlist to the drive. They can be the same drive, but you would be duplicating your files. For Sound Color FX, the XDJ-RX2 has Dub Echo, Sweep, Noise and Filter, plus it has a Parameter knob for added FX tweakability. Meanwhile the XDJ-RR has Dub Echo, Pitch, Noise and Filter. On the Beat FX side, the XDJ-RX2 has loads more: Delay, Echo, Spiral, Reverb, Transformer, Flanger, Pitch and Roll, while the XDJ-RR only has Echo, Reverb and Flanger. Next to the new screen you’ll notice that the navigation controls are lifted from the CDJ-3000. This will improve muscle memory for users of the industry standard media players who would prefer to have a compact system to practice with away from the booth. There are lots of features lifted from the flagship unit, including the Touch Preview function and playlist bank. Combine these additions with jogwheel adjustability and it’s clear that Pioneer DJ has designed the XDJ-RX3 to feel like a small booth setup. The Pioneer XDJ-RX has a familiar CDJ design makes the transition from the bedroom to the club a simple task! If you are looking for a professional all-in-one multiplayer solution, with many features found on the top-of-the-range CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2 setup. Rekordbox DJ Now Included

Ultimately, though, the question we opened with was: Is this now as good as software DJing, but without the laptop? (By “good”, I mean “as much fun”.) And broadly, I’d say it is. Looking at the XDJ-RX’s predecessors, the XDJ-Aero with all its wireless goodness was ultimately answering questions nobody was asking, and for us digital fans the XDJ-R1 felt too much like boring, limited old school CD DJing. Natural audio: The new audio design of the circuit board ensures that your audience will enjoy music as it is meant to be heard, without any unwanted external noise.

Features

When this unit is used in pure standalone mixer mode and the music comes in analog form from the SLs – can one switch off the central screen on this unit? So that a fully analog, immersive experience is created without a 7 inch screen glaring in DJs eyes in a darker bedroom setting? I have been forced to use Rekordbox at work, at first I hated it, but I have grown accustomed to it and its most redeeming feature is the lightness on PC load, that aside, to answer your question on playlists/Drives The Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3 is a 2 channel, all-in-one, DJ system which streamlines workflow and expands creative possibilities. I know it’s a lot ago ask for (the above 5 points) but let’s just start there and see what can be done/bought. If there isn’t a gear that will fulfill all those 5 points, let’s just start crossing out particular points and see what you come up with please.

As far as the standalone mixer functionality in this: I understand that this mixer will be ‘digital’ as far as the architecture goes? The new features intended to improve the navigation flow and make for a faster browsing and searching process include:In addition, the new Pad Status Display, Beat FX Bank and X-Pad have plenty of space within the screen – these features would have been impossible to implement on the old 7-inch screen. 3-band waveforms are now available, just as with the CDJ-3000, the blue represents low frequency data, orange the mid-range and white displays high frequency content. DJ’s have been begging for a quality up to date DJ system/Controller which does not require a laptop.

I mean I used to have DDJ-SZ (only used it for very short time) and loved it but now I am thinking about getting: Let’s look a little more closely at the mixer section. It’s only two channel, and has a library browse knob and buttons in the middle as DJ controllers do, but otherwise as stated above it looks, feels and acts like any pro Pioneer mixer. The DJ System is easily portable, making it the preferred option for parties and events. However, it is equally ideal for use at home, providing an excellent basis for practising, getting used to a club-standard layout and controls, making transferring to a club a breeze. 10.1-inch touchscreen display Xone:43C (with built in sound card) + two 1200s. This will give me fully analog sound quality with playing vinyls on 1200s as the this mixer is fully analog – although I am still not sure if this is rule of thumb that analog mixer sound better then digital ones. This will also give me the ability to use it in ‘digital DJing’ with Serato DJ so it would be very similar to using DDJ-SZ right? (especially after adding Xone K1 or K2). This will also give me full DVS control which is great. The biggest downside of this is it gives me no taste and the ability to get used to rekordbox ecosystem of club standard’s DJM/CDJ setup AT ALL. When I will start playing in a club with DJM/CDJs the learning curve from this setup that I will have used at home will be steep.

When it comes down to it, we find that this gear is a decent upgrade to its predecessors without too much of a price hike, and we look forward to seeing what they’ll improve on with future updates and releases.
