As I mentioned earlier, if you're using the Oracle, every time you go to make a coffee you'll need to amend the settings for the coffee you're making.

Using separate boilers for milk and coffee, the Oracle Touch produces enough steam pressure to create that ever-elusive micro-foam. It just changes the number for the same level of grind, It's best left as it comes as the grinder will have been calibrated, That can only be done to a certain accuracy which is one of the reasons for variations between grinders. Sage by Heston Blumenthal’s The Oracle gives you the feel of a manual espresso machine, while automating the functions that require a bit of expertise.Read-outs for both are visible on displays on the front panel, giving you that extra sense of involvement. You may think I'm wrong, as quite often you'll read “boiler” used in marketing blurb, but nearly all bean to cup machines I'm familiar with, have thermoblocks which are on-demand water heaters, not traditional brew boilers. The full descaling process requires a hands-on approach, 60 minutes and a flat-head screwdriver, but you won't need to do this often.

Moving to the top of the machine, there’s a twist-in coffee bean hopper big enough to swallow 280 grams of fresh beans and, just to the front of it, a convenient water filling portal.

Long coffees are strong and rich by default, while the frother brings out a sweetness in the milk that wouldn’t be possible if doing it manually. After a few attempts, it looks and feels like you’re an expert barista making competent cappuccinos, flat whites, and lattes. They were really nice, they took me seriously, sent me their Sage Oracle, and let me tell them when I'd done the review so they could have it collected (as they were sending it to someone else for review).

You can choose the amount of froth you want from the on-screen slider but you won’t have to fiddle with this very much to get great results. This ultra-compact espresso machine makes great espresso at the touch of a button, and we found it to be a great option for those who don’t drink milk-based coffee. The Oracle Touch, however, takes the concept one huge step further, combining the original’s automatic skills with a friendly, customisable touchscreen interface.More usually I would aim to try ratios of ~ 2, 2,5 and 3 and see what they produce, Often even with a new bean to try something in that range may come out with the grinder at it's previous setting. If on the other hand, there are going to be a few people making coffees on the machine, I think the Oracle touch is made for that situation. One of the most common issues I see with people using the Oracle and similar machines is shot-to-shot consistency.
