In a right-handed flam, the left stick plays a quiet grace stroke slightly before the right stick plays the main, primary stroke. Both directors are full time Pipe Band Drumming Instructors and professional percussionists with the Glasgow Police Pipe Band and world famous bagpipe rock group The Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

Relaxed: Play the hi-hat with a 'relaxed' tension, allowing the hi-hat cymbals to reverberate slightly. If something on your kit can’t be adjusted by a drum key then the likelihood is you’re not meant to touch it. Telling the reader to let the cymbals ring out throughout those rests gives the reader extra confidence.
