In speakers, size matters. The larger the speaker, the more space the drivers get to move, and the better the sound. Q350 is slightly bigger than the Q150. Things on which speaker audio depends: Placement Drivers are the heart of a speaker. Speakers usually have different drivers that cover different frequency range: tweeters (> 2000Hz), midrange (200-2000Hz), woofers (<200Hz). While the retro link will be the main attraction for some, for us that’s put in the shade by the speakers' excellent all-round performance. The 770 have a range of sonic talents that sets them apart from most rivals and earns them a warm recommendation. The 606 S3 are the bigger standmounters in B&W's latest 600 S3 range of speakers, and they're bigger, bolder and pricier than the younger sibling, the 607 S3 speakers (above). If you stay with the X1700 in just a stereo plus LFE role then it should have enough grunt to drive the R3s. They will easily roll off at 60hz when running Audyssey so setting a crossover of 80hz will allow the sub to take up a lot of the low frequencies leaving plenty of headroom for the high frequencies.

One more thing that is worth mentioning is; the speaker can be laid on its side. It’s perfectly symmetrical about all axis and the orientation can be changed. This is quite a useful feature if you don’t have a lot of top clearance and want to save space. Pros and Cons Kef Q150 Forums: Coaxials have a small gap that causes diffraction. Evidence to the contrary in the same document above. The footprint remains the same and they're ideal for smaller spaces. Partner them carefully to balance out a somewhat forward, excitable treble performance, and you'll be rewarded with a terrifically detailed, rhythmically cohesive, agile, and energetic sound. The overall presentation is more open-sounding than before, while the treble performance is so much sweeter and more refined. For their size and price level, each note lands with precision and they even hold dynamic interest at low volume. Basslines are pulled taut and while they don’t go as bone-shatteringly deep as bigger speakers (or as big as the bigger 606 S3, below), they do land with impact. The more the sensitivity, the louder the speaker can get. Here the Q350 can get slightly louder and will need less power if compared to the sensitivity of the Q150. DimensionMade from lightweight yet rigid aluminium, the woofer units are fast to respond and linear in their response. This helps give life-like dynamics and low levels of distortion. Using technologies developed in their high-end Concept Blade speakers, the Q750 offers attention to detail not usually seen in speakers at this level. The Z-Flex woofer surround gives superior cone control, helping it blend seamlessly with the treble unit for a more even and consistent sound. This extra bass power means the 606 S3 speakers aren’t quite as prone to the slightly excitable and forward treble of its lively 607 S3 sibling, but the older siblings' more level-headed, staid character comes at the expense of that charming and immediately entertaining sound we like so much in the new 607 S3. The RP-600M is a fantastic speaker with a lot of bass for its size and a smooth sound that makes you feel like you’re listening to live music in your home. A damped loading system greatly reduces distortion, giving a smoother, more detailed top-end. The "tangerine" wave-guide system helps the treble integrate more smoothly with the mid-range.

Bookshelf speakers are, as their name suggests, compact units that are meant to be placed on a shelf or a mantle. They are considered ‘passive speakers’ while Bluetooth devices are ‘active speakers’. Passive speakers don’t require power to function as they’re driven by a separate amplifier; active speakers have an amplifier housed within their enclosures and thus require power. The standout element of the KEF Q Series Q150 Speakers is the illustrious Uni-Q driver array. This patented technology plays the critical role of aligning the tweeter in the acoustic center of the midrange cone, resulting in a point source audio dispersion and a harmoniously integrated three-dimensional soundstage. The precision, detail, and depth of sound offered by the Uni-Q driver ensure an immersive listening experience. Optimized Bass Performance The connections between the Cambridge Audio CXA81 vs CXA61 are almost similar with slight differences as mentioned above. They're commonly known as bookshelf speakers, as some are small enough to fit in/on a bookshelf, or even on to desks. But a bookshelf isn't necessarily where you should put them – we would always recommend placing them on dedicated speaker stands to ensure they sound their best. Many of the products on this list, such as the KEF LS50 Meta, clearly demonstrate they deliver their full potential when not shoved into a corner or in a bookshelf.

Embedded Options Available

You can still buy them freely – they are available in Hi-Fi stores, in large retail chains, and on popular marketplaces. But such a picture is unlikely to last long – we also have an increased demand for junior two-way Q150s, which is actually anomalous – Music lovers, as you know, have always favored floor speakers more, and if they chose shelf systems, they preferred larger models. You can still connect bookshelf speakers or tower speakers to the CXA61. The Cambridge Audio CXA81 integrated amplifier will be able to drive more powerful speakers. We think these new Mission 770 are right up there with the very best at this price, and one of the best ways to fill a large room with sound. Mission takes design inspiration from the original 770 speakers launched in the 1970s, but has improved and modernised every other element: from the cabinet design to the drivers and even new dedicated stands. KEF, an exciting tech name, are the minds behind this technology. KEF, established over 50 years ago by Raymond Cooke, who used to be an employee of the BBC primarily make wireless speakers which have Bluetooth and NFC capabilites. You can also get more durable options. Q150 is a passive system. That means the amplifier isn't built in. Normally, active systems, also named powered, are the best choice. Bookshelf Speaker Properties

The placement of a speaker affects the audio quality vastly. A simple method of toe-in or moving it closer or further from the wall makes a huge difference Uni-Q Driver Array: Ensures accurate and detailed sound reproduction across all frequencies, immersing the listener in a true-to-life audio experience. Mac OS X OS. Make sure you use a premium USB cable. Also, you should make sure the USB connection remains within 3m of distance otherwise the output might be inconsistent.A simple work around is to use a standard stereo amp and separate the music side and TV side via a speaker switcher such as the Beresford 7220. It all depends on how much stereo music you listen to and how important it is to you.

The B5.2s are the second version of the line, but this isn’t an incremental upgrade. ELAC tweaked everything, from the enclosure size to the tweeter to the speaker drivers, and the result is a robust bookshelf speaker that reproduces balanced, if a little too ‘mature’, audio. They’re certainly not as lively as the Dali Spektor 2s – not a bad thing if you listen to older recordings. This is an affordable amp that delivers 40W per channel, has built-in Bluetooth, DAC and phono input. It uses a powerful Class D amplifier and delivers sweet and melodious sound. Factors to consider while buying an amplifier The first difference between Cambridge Audio CXA60 vs CXA80 is that the Cambridge Audio CXA80 has 20W more power per channel. Both these amps use toroidal transformers which minimize noise and have higher efficiency.

Launch Date

As you can see the Q series bookshelf speakers are quite similar to each other in terms of technology, material, and others. Here’s another alternative product Elac UB5. Features There’s a lot that can go into power/spl calculations but some rough ball park figures: - the R3s sensitivity spec is 87db/2.83V/1m. So KEF say 1 Watt to one speaker should give you 87dB from 1 metre away. Each doubling of distance away is meant to cause a loss of 6dB. So at 4 metres away 1 Watt would be giving you about 75dB. However the room itself can add 3-6db gain. And if you add another speaker so you have a Left and Right then that’ll be about 3dB more too. What we’re left with is that at 4 metres away the R3s are likely to be giving you at least 80dB (conservatively). With 1 Watt. Of course now you need to factor in headroom and the likely dynamic range of the material you’ll be listening to (how loud is it likely to go?). Each 3db increase from 80dB would need a doubling of wattage. For your use case at the volumes you like I doubt you’ll be troubling double figures that often. The coaxial driver looks great and caters to audiophile intuition of "point source being good."" Is this intuition incorrect?
