David and Tony also collaborated on the 2017 World Book Day title, BLOB, and on the blockbuster collections, The World s Worst Children 1, 2 and 3. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The story is about a 12-year-old billionaire, Joe Spud, who lives with his billionaire dad, who made money out of revolutionary Bumfresh toilet paper.

The hilarious, extraordinary but also touching fable of a Billionaire Boy is the new addition from the well-known comedian, turned author, David Walliams. After the half-term holidays, a new girl, Lauren, arrives at the school and all the boys have their eye on her, even Joe. I must admit the author quite surprised me - never really was much into children's stories for I find them dull and childish (maybe not the biggest issue given the target audience) however, I did enjoy Andersen’s fairy tales for they were beautifully crafted and quite intelligent in their educative message; on the other hand, I was afraid I am going to witness another 'The Elephant and the Balloon' attempt as known from Bernard and Manny! Since beginning his publishing career in 2008, David Walliams has taken the children’s literary world by storm. The contemporary books give my son access to the language he would expect, and most likely uses most. Raj, the kindly newsagent, finds Joe sleeping in a skip and talks over with Joe about his situation. Multi-talented David Walliams is the fastest growing children’s author in the UK market, selling an average of 20,000 books each week. Walliams’ books have achieved unprecedented critical acclaim and it comes as no surprise that countless broadsheet reviewers have compared him to his all-time hero, Roald Dahl.

Since the publication of his ground-breaking first novel, The Boy in the Dress (2008), Walliams has seen unprecedented growth with global sales exceeding 32 million copies, and his books translated into 53 languages. But is it only me who doesn't feel the word SLUT is appropriate in a child's book, yes my child is 8 years and it does state nine years but even at that age or older I don't think it's appropriate language to use, luckily it was my turn to read. Well, if being rich was smelly then Joe would be stinkier than a gold plated, diamond encrusted, one-hundred-and-one-year-old Camembert cheese, hidden in a used football sock at the bottom of dog poo bin, in the town of Smellyafartchester.

He was bullied at his last school because his father made his fortune by making loo rolls, he is very socially awkward. Joe has everything he could ever want:his own Formula One racing car,a thousand pairs of trainers, even an orang-utan for a butler! His books have now been translated into 40+ languages, and also include picture books illustrated by Tony Ross. But the classics give access to a wider style of writing, and perhaps, a more delightful turn of phrase in many cases with vocabulary not so commonly used today but which is great to learn. Personally, I plan for my son to read 50% contemporary books such as this, and 50 classic novels such as ‘The Enchanted Wood’ etc.

Definitely a good read for children as well as an adult (I am over 30 years old) who enjoy (or are looking for) a good piece of British* literature, easy to read with a heart-warming experience of intelligent structure and philosophical message behind. Billionaire Boy received positive praise from reviews by newspapers such as The Guardian [2] and The Express. Where the cast includes the author himself, who portrays the character of Mrs Trafe in the production. Billionare Boy is about a boy who dads a billionaire but although that they can get WHATEVER the young boy sadly does not have ONE single friend! My favourite part is when Raj does the purple chart and his bum is right at the far end of the list. It was such a nice book because it is so funny, especially when the main character(Joe)’s dad embarrasses him at school!
