Description

It is a tiny screen, but nothing fancy or big is needed on a device this size. It is 0.49 inches or 13 x 8.5 mm. It has a basic display that shows the wattage and battery level shown as a percentage and a bar. Beneath that are the coil resistance and a puff counter. The pod for the Novo 4 Mini has a 2ml capacity, which I believe is the same in all regions. While that’s not the largest capacity it is enough for such a small device. Thankfully Smok has finally realized it’s 2021 and the Novo 4 has Type-C charging. It charges in 90 minutes and does pass through charging so you can vape it while it charges. While plugged in the Novo 4 gives you the estimated charging time on the screen and shows you your current battery charge. It’s a really neat feature because it at least gives you an idea of how long it will take to charge. As mentioned above the device is fancy-free, and can only be fired and activated via auto-draw. There are no fire buttons, or screen and therefore no power adjustment. I need more coils. You sent me substitute coils.... I will buy more of the ones you sent. Which ones were they?

I was a little surprised that the Novo 4 only had an 800mAh battery considering it has a screen, so I was expecting the battery life to be a bit pants. Not the case so far, I’m getting around 400+ puffs between charges.I do notice the power drop off as the charge gets low but it is still useable.Charging time was pretty standard and rarely took over 45 minutes. Conclusion The pod uses Smok’s LP1 coils, which push fit into the base of the pod. Smok has put extra O-rings on the base of the LP1 coils to ensure they are resistant to leaking. I can gladly say I’ve had no leaking or juice issues with the device in my time of using it.

Customer Reviews

The biggest and most noticeable design change is the addition of an airflow control dial just under where the pod sits. This dial is similar to the one on the Nord 4, but there are a few changes that make it more MTL oriented. The pod also features a side-fill port, which is a rubber plug with an ample-sized fill hole. It gets concealed when you connect the pod to the device. For the first time, a Novo device does not use replaceable pods with built in coils. Instead for the Novo 4 it uses a 2ml pod that takes removable and replaceable coils. In the box you get one LP1 0.8Ω mesh coil that is best at 12W and one 0.8Ω LP1 DC coil that is also rated for 12-25W.

The coils have 2 flat sides that match up with the bottom of the pod. This means that the coil only goes in a certain way so make sure that you insert it properly. The Smok Novo 4 is the latest device in Smok’s popular Novo line of pod vapes. Just like Smok’s Nord devices, Novo devices have slowly been gaining new features with each new iteration. In fact, I was really impressed with the flavor delivered from the 0.9Ω LP1 mesh coils. They don’t quite deliver on the power to get a strong restricted DTL draw but are very good with the airflow cut down for an MTL draw. The pods are refillable and use replaceable plug-n-play coils. The only criticism of the pods is that they only hold 2 ml of liquid. 3 ml would have been a substantial improvement over the previous Smok pod mods. A host of safety protections allow help you get the most from your device, these include Low Voltage Protection, Short Circuit protection and an 8-second cutoff; all ensuring a safer and better vape experience. But it is an understandable con because EU regulations restrict tanks and pods to 2 ml. It might be too expensive for Smok to make a set of pods for the EU and another set for everyone else. Even so, 2 ml is not bad for 0.8 ohm coils.

If you were expecting a radical redesign for the Novo 4 then you’re going to be disappointed. The Novo 4 looks virtually identical to previous Novo devices and retains the same shape and rounded edges. To prevent leaking, these coils are fitted with 3 silicone o rings; 1 where the coil meets the hole that you draw from, 1 where the coil meets the bottom of the inside of the pod, and 1 where the coil meets the outside bottom of the pod. This setup seems to do a good job because even after 2 weeks of using the same coil I did not have any ejuice leak out from the pod. There are no other features for the device other than the automatic power (smart coil detection) setting based on the resistance of the coil connected. It has a power range of 4 to 25W. The only thing that is replaced is the coils. As long as they are adequately primed, they should last a week or more, depending on how heavily they are used. The screen is superb for its size, very bright andclear, and it displays just the right amount of information required for a pod:

SMOK Novo 4 Kit

The Smok Novo 4 looked like a decent mod straight out of the box, and it has some very impressive color schemes. The one our samplers used was red stabilizing. It felt solid and did not rattle or make any other strange noises suggestive of poor build quality. Novo devices have always been good MTL devices and the Novo 4 is no different. Judging from the latest iterations, it looks like Smok has designated the Nords as their DL pod vapes and the Novos as their MTL pod vapes. So if you’re a MTL vaper, you’ll want to be looking at the Novo 4.

One big change from previous Novo devices is that instead of pods with the coils built in, the Novo 4 uses replaceable coils. Where the Nord 4 went in the direction of catering to direct lung vapers, the Novo 4 seems like a MTL oriented kit. Sadly, I didn’t have any other LP1 coils to hand to see how they performed in the Novo 4 Mini. Hopefully, they do a good job, and may even offer slightly more variation and perhaps a better DTL performance. I find this coil suits me best at the 15 watt suggested range. gives a good hit not too strong not too weak . Just right for me.

Customer Questions & Answers

These are both excellent pod systems, but they are made for different roles. While the Smok Novo 4 is ideal for mouth-to-lung vaping, the Nord 4 is suited for direct-to-lung vaping. It puts out 80 watts and uses two sub-ohm coils, including a 0.16 RMP 2 mesh coil. It also has a larger 2,000 mah battery, which is necessary because it runs at higher wattages.
