You want an even coat covering the entire wood surface, you want it thick enough for the paper you printed the image on to stick firmly but not too thick that it oozes out of the sides. After about a minute, use a damp sponge or rag and gently rub the paper off in a circular motion to reveal the image below. As a final step once all the paper fibers are removed, paint a thin coat of mod podge over the entire image and allow it to dry.

Maybe if you try this trick with your inkjet images before applying the Photo transfer medium you may also get a sharp image out of the inkjet print.

I have even tried to make these kind of transfers with gel medium and also with white glue and the White Glue (I suppose is like Elmers Glue) works as beautifully as the classic Mod Podge does.
