The company also offers freebies and upgrades — like an extra wig or customizable joint stiffness — more often than any vendor except perhaps Rosemary Doll. When you combine all of these factors, you stand a good chance of saving money at SexySexDoll. The universe that the story takes place in is well written. It is a world where magicians control puppets and have them fight. It is fleshed out and the setting has a nice atmosphere that comes across nicely. That's the good part. The bad part is the events of the story. The MC has some insatiable need to get involved in the business of strangers. The writers couldn't explain it because it's so stupid; at one point they even had the MC say "I have no idea why I'm doing this". Anime with male MCs typically have a problem of having main characters make retarded, implausible, reasonless decisions. This show is no exception. What hurts this show even more is that we are supposed to think of the MC as a badass, despite the fact that he has a phobia of sex and avoids it at all costs. I cannot emphasize this enough, but My Dress-Up Darling is an ECCHI rom-com. Forget the synopsis about the interesting life of a cosplayer and doll-maker respectively, this is a terrible high school slice of life with some of the worst ecchi sequences I have ever seen. I would like to preface at the beginning of this review that My Dress-Up Darling has become one of my most hated anime. Admittedly, that doesn’t excuse me from just trashing the show entirely, so I will still try to be as objective as I can, since this review is meant for potential viewers.

Even if the story was kinda of a fluke, the characters I'd say didn't felt polished as compared to reading the manga version of it (which I only discovered episodes in). In the manga version, at least most of the T-Dolls, given Griffin's or Sangvis's, they do at least exemplify their personality in whatever ridiculous ways possible with some infused comedy to even out the nearly-serious tone of the story. But while the tone is kept subtly in the anime, it mostly went too overboard with the seriousness of the situation of a sub-intended "World War III" between moe combat androids, so much so that the almost 25-minute runtime (plus OST) feels like a chore to sit through. Don't get me wrong, I love the insane battles here, but somewhere along the line, things doesn't seem to match up with the overall feel, and for better or for worse, makes or breaks the entire flow of the anime. Because the show is from the perspective of Wakana, that means his sexual inexperience near girls can appear as what is seen in the show, specifically towards Marin.’ Characters. Once again - abysmal. While I know that most characters here are androids, yet according to lore all of them have their personalities, quirks and traits. Nothing of that is shown clearly. Even actual humans here feel more like robots with one defining trait, only the MC is different - she can be described in not one, but two words(!) - arrogant and irritating.

Not only are all the aforementioned good aspects kept to a minimum, a lot of its potential is wasted since the writer had ‘different’ ideas on their agenda. I’m going to start with the ecchi, probably the most controversial aspect of the series.The fanservice. I hate to be that guy who comes off as “the fanservice hater”, because I do not hate fanservice in general. However, I do dislike the fanservice in My Dress-up Darling. In ep 2, for example, Gojo was clearly uncomfortable with Marin when she stripped to get him to “take her measurements”. The scene was clearly contrived for fanservice, and when it's at the expense of someone’s dignity, it does not sit well with me. The love hotel in ep 11 once again was contrived to provide the usual romcom hijinks. Once again, Gojo, the voice of reason, was against the idea of them, being minors, spending time in a love hotel. However, Marin replied with “yeah, if you’re normies”, and then pulled out the sunk cost fallacy argument, which is just really helpful in assuaging these kinds of concerns. This “fanservice” that the show has does not add much enjoyment to it for me. On the contrary, it can be annoying at times and I really think this show could have done without the fanservice. Let's talk about Bisque Doll's art. As expected from CloverWorks, it's visually appealing. See, this is the type of stuff CloverWorks is really good at, to produce anime that appeal to the viewer's eye. However though... (ah shit, here we go again.) I have a big problem with fanservice. I've talked to one of my forum threads before, I don't mind fanservice, as long as it doesn't upset me and also to the viewers. This is a bit too much fanservice for a "nOn-eCcHI" anime. I don't need to list them all again, but if this had less horniness and less fanservice, I would accept it. AI models are outfitted with touch sensors in the arms, legs, breasts, and vagina, allowing them to respond to stimulation. Their speech function provides a moaning sound in response to your touch. They can perform subtle facial expressions with eyes that can blink and look around. The biggest problem is by far the content. Shallow. Each character’s theme story feels shallow and unfulfilling, and even the main line story has no substance in it. The challenges and sad moment is over forcefully engineered, and each story is just as predictably boring as the next. It's possible to use Rosemary Doll's services for a complete custom job, including a custom, one-of-a-kind head the company can make from scratch. All you have to do is provide them with at least one reference photo (more photos should increase the accuracy of the final product).
