Reasons to avoid: Multiple versions can be confusing (get 3C MaxxTerra for rear tyre). Slightly undersized compared to other beefier brands Reasons to avoid: Loads of versions – look for Orange stripe. Slightly undersized, so size up if you want big volume. The Magic Mary is different. There is no Maxxis version – let alone inspiration – of a Schwalbe Magic Mary. If you squinted and drank a certain flavour of Kool Aid, you could sort of see a bit of Maxxis Shorty in there. But even so, the original Maxxis Shorty is no more (the new very-MX Maxxis Shorty Gen 2 is here now). The strong shoulder lugs and open profile design provide maximum braking traction and optimal cornering grip even on muddy paths. With the V-Groves developed for Magic Mary, each individual stud has even more teeth on the ground for even more grip. Beveled flat lugs in the center of the tread optimize rolling behavior. It is important to note even though that tyres with soft rubber compound offer more grip and roll more smoothly, soft tyres degrade faster and are more prone to wear. The SnakeSkin side fabric guarantees additional cut-resistant side walls and thus increases puncture resistance. Schwalbe Magic Mary Evo 2021: Best Bike Tyres UK

Equipped with V-Groves specially developed for Magic Mary, every stud can bite into the ground for even more grip Tubeless Technology: For all ambitious sports cyclists, Tubeless is the right choice. Only Tubeless With an advanced, intermediate tread profile and Schwalbe’s ADDIX Soft compound, this top-performing mountain bike tyre hangs on over the loosest surfaces and soaks up the biggest impacts. This Super Trail model is designed for use with medium travel bikes.

Maxxis Minion DHR II 1. Maxxis Minion DHR II Best rear tyre for mixed conditions, but also great up front Tyres with the recommendation "E-25" are the perfect choice for all pedelecs with pedal assistance up to 25 km/h. The most important criterion for this recommendation is safety. As versatile as a multi-tool: a stable construction, with a range of applications from intense all-mountain and trail rides to enduro use. Ideal for riders riding a medium-travel bike. Weight: 1,040g | Size tested: 29 x 2.4in (also available in 27.5 x 2.5in) | Actual size: N/A | Rating: 10/10

If you find an item at a lower price with another commercial internet retailer, you will receive it from us at the same price, provided the conditions listed in the link are met. The price of admission may be high, but if you're looking for an aggressive tire to handle loose or muddy conditions, we think the Magic Mary is a great option. It's not as light or versatile as many of the other tires in our test; it's more of a niche option for specific conditions. That said, its beefy Apex reinforced sidewalls are supportive and durable while still coming in at a reasonably light weight, for this style of tire, that makes it suitable for use as a trail riding tire and not just a gravity oriented heavyweight. If you're looking for a versatile all-around tire, you'll want to look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a tire to dominate in the loose or the mud, the Magic Mary might be for you. Other Versions It corners really well – better than other brands’ squarer profile tyres, for me anyway. It clears mud really well, even though the relatively dense tread pattern suggests it might not. The SnakeSkin fabric on the side wall makes tubeless conversion for the MTB extremely light and safe - it is also the best cut protection on the side wall.Using wider tyres up front for extra grip and comfort makes good sense. Arms get more cushioning and comfort, and, like skis, narrower rears can help initiate faster turning. Tyre width is directly relative to air volume, and larger volumes provide more isolation, damping and control, up to a point. Wider tyres add weight for climbing and acceleration, but rolling speed between different widths should be so close off-road, it’s not such an issue. What kind of weight are modern MTB trail tyres? Reasons to avoid: Loads of versions – can be confusing to choose best one. You have no excuses with this tyre! Er. What isn’t good about it? My only petty gripe is that the orange Soft Addix compound is not actually that soft. It’s pretty much like Maxxis 3C MaxxTerra. Which is fine so long as you’re aware of this beforehand and don’t expect 3C MaxxGrip tenacity or slow-rebound calmness. The purple Ultra Soft Addix Mary is my rubbery weapon weapon of choice. But your type of terrain – and weather – may well be different to mine. And the orange Mary does last longer than the purple Mary. Tubeless Easy with SnakeSkin is the excellent tubeless standard of all Schwalbe MTB tires in the EVOLUTION Line.

For 27.5" wheels, it is available in 2.25", 2.35", 2.6", and 2.8" widths. It can be found in Snakeskin, Snakeskin Apex (tested), and Super Gravity casings, in ADDIX Ultra Soft, ADDIX Soft, and ADDIX Speedgrip (tested) rubber compounds. Who's this item for: A great option for Trail, AM and Enduro this tyre is excellent for the right type of trails.

The Schwalbe Magic Mary Evo Super Downhill offers everything that increases the fun of the Enduro and DH. Strong shoulder studs and aggressive, open tread design provide maximum braking traction and cornering grip even in extremely muddy terrain. With SnakeSkin and Addix compounds for rich handling and maximum puncture protection on demanding trails. Cycling is today considered a progressive form of personal transport that offers nothing but advantages – with one unfortunate exception: the tire puncture. Schwalbe identified this problem at an early stage and has continually set new milestones in matters of puncture protection. For example, Schwalbe offers touring and city tires that can call themselves “flat-less”. For high-performance cycling, our Tubeless Easy Technology combined with tire sealant also sets new benchmarks in preventing punctures. And almost all other Schwalbe tires have an integrated puncture protection belt. Schwalbe tires for the future. I used to change tyres pretty much as frequently as my underpants. But for the past few seasons, on my own bike, I’ve just run a Schwalbe Magic Mary as a front tyre (in purple Ultra Soft compound) and a Maxxis Minion DHR II on the rear (3C MaxxTerra), and got on with my life. In addition to great bite in loose conditions and excellent braking traction, the large squared off, and widely spaced tread design of the Magic Mary tends to cause quite a bit of rolling resistance, and this comes as no surprise. If you're considering a tire with a meaty and aggressive tread like this, however, you're generally more concerned with braking traction and cornering grip than how fast it rolls. It has among the most rolling resistance in our entire test selection, on par with the other downhill and enduro specific tires like the WTB Convict and the Maxxis Assegai. It is worth noting that the Magic Mary we tested weighs 1059g, over 200g less than the Convict, or the Assegai. This substantial weight difference reduces rotational weight and will result in a feeling of less rolling resistance, especially over extended periods of pedaling. Longevity The ADDIX compound for hardcore Enduro and Downhill use. It has sensationally excellent damping properties and also works perfectly in cold conditions.
