Description

I'm unsure what size Leather Colourant Kit I require for my project, is there a general guide or 'rule of thumb'? This issue contains an article from Clayton Spear regarding the excellent talk given at the DLOC Spring Conference by our guest speaker Aline Angus, by coincidence I had just effected some badly needed repairs to the leather seats in a Barker Special Sports. I am a great believer in con-servation and would rather preserve than replace any item, but as Aline mentioned in her write up there comes a time when the product is no longer fit for purpose and will require replacement. I thought it had reached this point with the seats in this car but decided that I would have one last attempt at repair, the method described by Aline was similar to the one I adopted.

Furniture and automotive database of pre-mixed colours for many retailers and manufacturers such as DFS, Alfa Romeo, Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, MG and Rolls Royce. For leather that is also damaged, you may also want to consider purchasing our Repair Add-On with the Leather Colourant Kit. How long does it last? You should also use additional equipment such as rubber gloves and consider placing newspaper down to prevent dye from running onto other items or surfaces. It is also a good idea to properly ventilate the area where you use a leather dye kit. Vinyl roof paint for cars creates an intense look The Leather Colourant can be used to repair small damages to leather, as well as restore or change the colour of full items. Colour Matching Made Easy Leather Prep: This is used to remove any manufacture's finish; this is an important step, so your new colour and/ or repair products adhere properly.Maybe your leather couch needs leather dye to restore it to its former glory, or maybe you're hoping to completely transform it - taking it from a lighter color to a dark color, or vice versa. If you want to apply the top finish from our kit, then you'll be able to protect the dyed leather and let it speak for itself. Calling on modern colour matching methods, our team of specialists will identify the colour of your leather and formulate an exact match. Unfortunately the contrast of screens vary, so the image you see on your screen may be slightly different to ours. The last step is actually quite easy! The colour can be applied by brush, sponge or airbrush. Simply apply the colour onto the leather in a thin coat and dry it with a hairdryer.

A. Our Leather Repair Paint can be used on all leather types and colours of leather. It is also safe to use on vinyl and faux leather, including bonded leather. Alcohol Cleaner: This is used after the Leather Prep and is designed to remove any leftover residue from the Prep. I found with the method I adopted, the repairs took on the appearance of a crease, in my opinion this effect is perfect for well used leather. Of course, these dye kits aren’t just great for your clothes; they are suitable for garments, your car interior and any item of leather that is slightly worn but is still in excellent condition. To improve abrasion resistance and water spotting even further, add 5% Norsol X-Linker to the colourant.

When are leather dye kits most effective

If you're repairing an area of colour loss smaller than an A5 piece of paper, then you should clean the area with Alcohol Cleaner before applying any colour. In fact, we create all of our leather colourants using car manufacturers’ specific interior colour codes, enabling us to deliver a precise match for your vehicle.

We have 24 standard colours and hundreds of custom colours including many specific car interior colours. We also offer a colour matching service for an exact match to your leather item. If you are looking for a leather dye to match a car interior, review the manufacturer details and documents you received when buying the vehicle. There will likely be a name and colour code specific to your vehicle's interior, and if you want the new colour to match the initial colour, be sure to buy the same type! Try the colour first before you've coloured the complete item I would like to recommend The Furniture Clinic (0844 879 3691) as an excellent supplier of leather restoration products. Sending a sample of the leather was only necessary because I was not able to take my car to their premises. They welcome customers and tell me they have people regularly visiting to buy their products, not just for cars but for furniture as well. The people I spoke to on the telephone were helpful and friendly. This is a refreshingly different attitude from one of the other suppliers (Gliptone) who I have heard are rather abrupt and will not accept visitors. One feature which particularly appealed to me about this particular method is that the seat is not stripped down, the repairs are made with the seat covers on the frames from the surface of the leather, this is a huge bonus to anyone with only rudimentary trimming skills. The first task is to clean the leather, this alone makes a huge difference, the repair area is then lightly abraded with a scourer dampened with ‘leather prep’ solution. The kit comes with everything you need to effect repairs to rips, holes, cigarette burns or scuffs and is very simple to use, as with any task of this type, the more time you take over it, the better the end result will be. Those of you with more patience than I have, will cer- tainly get better results than mine! Our Leather Colourants are a water-based polyurethane mixture, with exceptional adhesion abilities, specially formulated to flex with the leather while maintaining high resistance to tear, abrasion and scratching. NORSOL Leather Colourants have a high pigment content, resulting in excellent depth of colour, filling and levelling properties. Often, only two coats are required and in some cases even one can be sufficient. Although every project is different, this guide provides a good overview of the scale of projects that each size of the Leather Colourant Kits in our range is suitable for. If in doubt it is always better to go one size larger, providing all of the colourant and finish you need, with some left over for touch-ups should they be needed going forward.

I would also like to endorse the recommendation of Millennium Mercedes in Bedford (01234 218424) which was made by Dr Robert Oakley in the May issue of the Gazette. One of the great things about leather dye is that it comes in a wide range of colours. This means that you can easily find a dye to match the colour of your leather item, or you can experiment with different colours to create a new colour scheme. The colour match process is simple, and even if the original colour is old, it is possible to dye leather in an effective manner. It is the perfect solution for repairing scuffs, scratches and colour loss. If you need to restore a large item of leather (i.e. a full sofa or car interior) then we would recommend using our Leather Colourant Kit. However, the Leather Repair Paint can still be used for these larger jobs if you wish. It can easily be applied by sponge, brush or spray. Most people are familiar with leather dyes and a leather colourant kit, but the terminology behind a leather re colouring balm might be new. This is a cream you apply to scratched or faded leather items, including sofas and all manner of furniture. Leather re colouring balm is easy to apply to leather itemsThe Leather Colourant Kit is not just a standard leather dye but an actual process, which gives fine results every time. Developed by professionals in the leather manufacturing industry, our Leather Colourants are not just standard dyes, but water-based dye finishes used to give a long-lasting, durable and flexible finish. As well as being non-hazardous and non-flammable, this kit is easy and safe to use. Selecting Your Colour & Finish
