Description

Could The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo really be fiction, dreamt up entirely in Taylor Jenkins Reid's mind? Every moment felt so real, so tangible. When I reached the end, it was hard to let go, hard to return to a world where this was nothing more than a figment of the imagination. This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo I want to be with someone I love. I want to have a companion. I’d like to bring someone home to my family. I don’t want to live alone anymore. And I want a son or a daughter. We could have that together. I can’t give you everything. I know that. But I want to raise a family, and I’d love to raise one with you.” But there’s even more diversity. Like, it gets even better. Because, again, despite the time setting, this book contains A SH*T TON of LGBT+ rep. And these are some of the most beautifully portrayed LGBT+ relationships I’ve ever read. If you don’t read this book for anything else, read it for that fine-ass inclusion, boi. Elizabeth, De (March 24, 2022). " 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' to Get Glam Film Adaptation". Netflix Tudum.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is, yeah, about the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Seven husbands who are sometimes awful and sometimes sympathetic and sometimes somewhere in between. Ernie, who she used to get to where she is, Don, who beat her till she barely knew whether to continue, Harry, who she loved more than any of them, Max, who loves the idea of her more than he could ever love her. Evelyn falls in love with, and marries, actor Don Adler, whom she believes to be the first true love of her life. But, in the following months, Don begins to abuse Evelyn when she becomes successful and is outshining his own career. In The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, present-day Evelyn is a 79-year-old recluse, a far cry from the woman she was as she ruthlessly gained stardom through her films and various personal scandals from the 1950s on. However, she's ready to tell her story to the world — the story of her true self, the glamorous and not-so-glamorous parts of her career, and her marriages — to Monique Grant, a seemingly random and unknown journalist who can't believe she's being offered this opportunity. As they sit together and Monique learns everything she needs to know about the real Evelyn to write the actress's biography, it becomes clear why she was chosen for the job and that it wasn't random at all. When I first started this, I thought I was in for a fluffy, gossipy romance set in the golden Hollywood era. After all, why would anyone need so many husbands unless one was in it for a good time? But this turned out to be so much more. At its heart, it's a stunning and brutally honest portrayal of love in all its different forms. It shows not just the joy of love, but also its sacrifices and heartbreaks. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo made me have a great time: it made me cry (a lot), it made me laugh, and it made me think. The characters are so complicated and complex in a way I hadn’t read before, they were so beautifully created. My special shout-out goes to Harry who completely owned my heart, and the amazing twists we had for the plot were just the cherry on top of the cake. So I told myself that the spark between Celia and me was just a quirk we had. Which was convincing as long as it remained quirky.

In this book, we get the life of Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo narrated by the journalist Monique who works for a prestigious magazine. Evelyn Hugo never gave an exclusive interview to anyone throughout her career, so Monique has no choice but to accept because this could be huge for her career. Evelyn and she sit down and talk about Evelyn’s life as Monique takes notes and listens. But little did she know that meeting Evelyn would change her life forever. You see, it wasn’t a mere coincidence that Evelyn chooses Monique to write her autobiography, but I guess if you want to find out, you have to read the book.

I wanna say: DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT HISTORICAL FICTION CAN’T BE DIVERSE. Tell that anthropomorphized tennis ball they’re either uncreative or a secret bigot or a full-on dunce or ALL THREE. Because this book pulls it off with more than a tablespoon of grace, I’ll tell you that. After reading this book I felt very good about how this girl has brought her hidden story to the world. Without a doubt, this is my favourite book of all time now. I have never had such a big emotional reaction to a work of literature, and I highly doubt another book will be able to come close for a long time. I finished this book wishing for more literature on Evelyn Hugo and wanting to watch her films, which unfortunately do not exist. A reread is definitely on the horizon for me, and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since closing this gem. crying sobbing throwing up banging my head against the table, why can’t they just be happy, let them be happy, please please PLEASE, i need this more than oxygen.
