Description

NOTE: These instructions can also be used in devices that have embedded (mini) versions of the above Network Management Cards. You then need to change the terminal program's baud rate to match the one you selected in step 12. If you are using HyperTerminal select Call ->Disconnect and go to File->Properties->Configure and choose the correct speed.Accept the changes and then to reestablish the connectionchoose theCall menu->Connect to apply changes made to the serial port. Press to continue. Kit includes all necessary parts to install an AP9635 for all G5000 UPS serial numbers and firmwares. NOTE: If the boot monitor module must be updated, a boot monitor module is included in the firmware release. Otherwise, the boot monitor module that is installed on the card is compatible with the firmware update. Ifthere is no included bootmonitor file, upgrade theAOS binaryfirst.

If the Management Card is installed in an Expansion Chassis or Triple Expansion Chassis, connect the provided configuration cable (APC part number 940-0299) to the serial port at the Management Card, or connect an RS-232 configuration cable (APC part number 940-0024) to the DB-9 serial port at the expansion chassis. If you connect an RS-232 configuration cable (APC part number 940-0024) to the DB-9 serial port of the expansion chassis, select 115200 bps.Terminal Emulationis a built-in function on most operating systems (ex: HyperTerminal). Before usingany terminal emulation program, any services using the COM ports must be stopped. For example, if you are running a serial version of APC's PowerChute software, the APC UPS service must be stopped prior to runningthe terminal program. Then, follow these instructions: NOTE: In NMC2 firmware version 6.8.0 and higher, and in NMC3, you cannot search for assigned devices already on the network using an IP range unless you enable SNMPv1 and set the Community Name to “public”.

NOTE:To upgrade multiple Management Cards using an FTP client or using SCP, write a script which automatically performs the procedure. Your device came pre-loaded with the wrong application and you need to load the correct application. Run a terminal program such as HyperTerminal, and configure the selected port for 57600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control. NOTE: Certain terminal emulation programs, such as PuTTy, do not support the XMODEM protocol. Obtain the latest firmware files from apc.com and extract them to a folder. Please note, USB may not allow for a firmware downgrade. You must use a manual method to accomplish a downgrade. DHCP/BootP andretry optionsare only available in NMC2 AOS 5.0.X. It is no longer an option in AOS versions > 5.0.XPress the Reset button on the Management Card or reseat the Network Management Card in the SmartSlot, then immediately start pressing the key repeatedly until the Boot Monitor prompt displays: BM>. Once you have entered Boot Monitor mode correctly, the Network Management Card 3's status LED will be solid orange in color. (Boot Monitor mode is required on NMC3 for an XMODEM upgrade in any situation.) The "shell" once connected via SSH is severely limited but adequate to collect sufficient data for my purposes (input line conditions and battery level). Note : SUVT model UPSs with v7.X.X firmware should use NMC2 to take advantage of all UPS firmware enhancements. The firmware executable will then begin the upgrade process. This process may take as long as 5-7 minutes to finish. Once finished, close the executable. NOTE: This wizard will also not workwith any Network Management Card familyif the NMC was previously configured and not in DHCP or BOOTP boot mode. v5.0.0 and higher of the wizard, available from apc.com, allows you to locate unconfigured cards or locate configured cards on the network by IP range.

Use thebootcommand to change the Network Management Card's boot mode ONLY if you are using DHCP or BootP.

The unit supports remote monitoring/control of APC's SMT/SRT series of uninterruptible power supplies via several protocols: SMTP, SNMP (v1&3), HTTP,HTTPS, and SSH (sorta). Lastly, downgrades are not typically recommended but the manual methods can also be used to do those in certain circumstances. Connect to theUPS/device serial port using the correctAPC configuration cable. Part numbers are below for common devices. Please refer to the User Guide if you are not sure or your device is not listed. NOTE: If you wish to downgrade from v6.X.X to v5.1.X firmware on NMC2, please make sure you review Knowledge Base Article FA167693 prior. NOTE: For NMC1, SCP is supported and available as of AOS 2.0.0. If you have version 1.X.X, please upgrade to at least 2.X.X or the latest firmware version.

Ships with AP9630 pre-installed in units manufactured post 2012. Older G7000 models require a special upgrade kit pre-2012 manufacture date. This feature is available in bootloader version v1.3.3.1 and higher. Before starting the transfer, make sure the USB drive is formatted in FAT, FAT16 or FAT32. If you made any wrong selections you will have no access and will have to connect a laptop with serial cable (hello 2023!) to fix your error via CLI or reset your NMC3 to factory defaults with a paper clip and reconfigure your NMC3 from scratch. Oh and when APC does decide to upgrade the firmware that is another trip to the CLI. Hilarious. (I work with the CLI from 9-5 in my day job and have no patience for this after work. For example, if you have the Network Management Card installed in a UPS, you need to determine which UPS you have. APC offers several different UPS families. Some of these families include:After connecting the correct cable, start the terminal emulation program of your choice. Configure port settings appropriately for the device you are attached to (refer to the User Guide for the particular device). Commonly usedport settings are as follows: Connect the Management Card to an available serial port on the host computer with the supplied cable (part number 940-0024). If using the wizard over the network, please note, the previouslyunconfigured NMC must be on the same subnet as the computer running the wizard. An alternative method to using the wizard via the network methodmay be to use a direct network connection between a computer and the NMC you are trying to configure and running the wizard. Ultimately, your computer and the NMC will be on a peer to peer network which will allow for configuration as well. To install the application module, repeat step 5 and step 6. In step 6, use the application module file name. If you have any other type of computer, then you will need to manually upload each firmware file to the Web SNMP/Network Management Card. Go to the XMODEM or Manual sections belowfor additional instructions.
