OK, while it may require a little more effort than just opening the freezer, or app-tapping your way to pizza for dinner, there is something incredibly rewarding about preparing, making and cooking your very own cheesy, doughy, crusty deliciousness at home, using one of the many domestic pizza ovens currently available. Cooking with gas is fairly easy, but it involves a careful eye toward the temperature and fuel flow.

Another issue: when wind started blowing from behind the oven while cooking with wood, it caused ash to blow onto the pizza when I opened the access door.

Using both is best, as temperature guns tell you how hot the pizza stone is – built-in thermometers don't. They require the most patience and skill, as they usually take longer to get up to temperature than gas, and need almost constant attention to get the flames to the right size and consistency.

It opens by placing a hook into a slot and then lifting said hook up…but about halfway through cooking with wood, this slot started to warp due to the heat, making it impossible to open the door until I stopped cooking and let it cool down. Once I understood what it was I was doing, the setup was fairly straightforward, but it depends on which fuel type you’re going to use. The oven features a temperature gauge which allows you to see when you’re at the optimum cooking pointt and an adjustable chimney to control the heat. If you have cookware that can handle the heat, there are endless possibilities – try roasting a joints of meat, steaming a pot of mussels or even baking bread.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH).

The crust cooks and burns very quickly during cooking, so be minimal with toppings to ensure that they cook just as fast. This hand-crafted oven from the Netherlands is shipped flat-packed, so you need a little investment in time and effort putting the corten steel parts together, but you don’t need to be super practical to get it up and running, thanks to the well-thought-out design. Add the water, olive oil, and honey to the dry ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula to thoroughly combine, about 2 minutes. We photograph and taste every pizza we cook, checking for evenness of cooking, the texture of the crust and base, and any flavours that are especially present or lacking.Cover the pan with plastic wrap and allow to rest and rise for 30 to 45 minutes at room temperature. As well as being compatible with traditional large propane tanks, for when you’re using the oven at home, the very lightweight (9. But if you’re just looking for a regular pizza oven and don’t need the ability to use propane, I’d recommend saving some of your money and going with a wood-only option.
