Description

The UDM line of products are essentially enterprise-level network appliances that combine the following functions into a single device: For wireless testing we connected a set of UniFi nanoHD access points to the PoE switch and added them to our cloud account. Once online, they started broadcasting our predefined SSIDs and guest networks, with details automatically appearing in the portal’s wireless experience graph. While options for the configuration and optimisation of UniFi Wi-Fi Access Points are extensive, configuration options for some aspects of router configuration are rather sparse compared with Ubiquiti’s own EdgeRouter series (which does not use the UniFi Controller). So, some users may find it hard to decide between an EdgeRouter device (such as the ER-4), with more extensive configuration options, and the UDM Pro, with significantly greater processing power but with more limited configuration options. Also, we feel the presence of two different systems is rather confusing for users, and we hope that Ubiquiti will migrate its products to a single platform, presumably based on the UniFi Controller. We would like to see Ubiquiti adding additional configuration options to the UniFi Controller, which are currently included in its EdgeRouter products. We could imagine more hidden ‘advanced’ menus working well in the UniFi Controller software. The UDM-Pro is a 1U appliance, made out of metal. It looks similar to the USG-Pro, with a few added features and much faster performance.

Video surveillance is just as easy to set up. The appliance accepted our Seagate 10TB SATA drive without a murmur and instantly made it available for recording incoming video. After we’d added a UVC G4 Bullet IP camera to our account, we were able to view its live feed from the portal, enable smart detection and set up custom motion-detection events and recording actions. The UXG-Pro was finally added to general access in March 2022, after spending nearly 2 years in the Early Access store. The UXG-Pro is not a UniFi OS Console, meaning it can be used with self or cloud-hosted UniFi Network controllers, like the USG line could. The UXG-Pro doesn’t run any UniFi applications, making it a standalone router just like a USG or USG-Pro.Ubiquiti's UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) is an all-in-one network appliancefor a scalable network in an office, retail, or hospitality environment.Powered by a fast 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, the UDM Procombines multiple functions into a single device:

The UDM-SE is mostly the same as the UDM-Pro. It upgrades to a 2.5 Gbps RJ45 WAN port. It also adds PoE support to the 8-port switch, with two 802.3at PoE+, and six 802.3af PoE ports. The UDM-SE also has 128 GB of internal storage for UniFi Protect. If you’re wondering how you can avail all the benefits that come with port forwarding, then the following guide is sure to help you out. In this particular guide, we’ll show you how to port forward UDM Pro. Requirements to port forward UDM Pro What also sets the UDM Pro apart from many other routers (including Ubiquiti’s own EdgeRouter series) is an exciting set of features. The in-built UniFi Controller software allows the provision and management of a range of UniFi devices, which include best-in-class Wi-Fi Access Points, through a single, centralised interface. Once you’ve collected all the necessities, you’ll then need to follow the steps below to set up port forwarding on your UDM Pro router: While the USG and USG-Pro are older, they have some features which have not shown up in the newer products. Namely, any feature which requires manually editing the JSON config file on the USG is not possible with the UXGs or Dream Machines. The newer hardware doesn’t have the same underlying architecture, and does not have the same JSON config file workaround. You are limited to what features are exposed in the web interface. The UniFi Dream Machine gives you everything you need for an UniFi network in one device. It looks like a normal all-in-one home router. In UniFi terms, it is a UniFi OS Console, router, switch, and wireless access point. There is a misconception among some broadband users that bufferbloat is only an issue for users with low broadband speeds and that choosing faster services eliminates bufferbloat. We have tested ultrafast broadband connections with speeds of 300 Mbps and above and can confirm that latency can easily increase to 100 ms or above without SQM in operation. This has been one of the biggest debate and wished for things ever since the UDM PRO was first announced. And they have added it to the Special addition - all 8 ports (6 are 802.3af and 2 are 802.3at) When the changes have taken effect, you can easily start hosting your server or application on the network and can easily let your friends connect to it. Don’t forget to provide them with the hostname that you’re using as well as the port number, which should look something like this, ‘hostname.domain.com: 25565. Ports needed to run

Ubiquiti launched the UniFi Dream Machine and Dream Machine Pro around a year ago, with the UDM-Pro being launched in February 2020. Both devices take the modular approach that Ubiquiti has with UniFi and condenses a few products into one simpler to use and in some cases, less expensive but that can come with some added complication. The UDM combines a Cloud Key controller, USG gateway, 4 port ethernet switch and an access point. The UDM-Pro combines a Cloud Key controller, USG gateway, 8 port ethernet switch with 2 SFP+ ports and a 3.5-inch drive for UniFi Protect, essentially making it an appliance server. This article will compare and contrast the two more advanced models UDM-SE and the UDM-Pro, and help you decide which is best for your needs. The UDM Pro includes the UniFi Network Controller so you can manage your UniFi Switches and APs. It can also run the UniFi Protect software for convenient monitoring and complete management of your camera surveillance system. Video recordings are stored on the built-in NVR (hard drive not included) and can be easily accessed using the UniFi Protect mobile app. Via remote access, you can securely view the recordings that are privately stored on the UDM Pro rather than a third-party server. With a hard disk installed for the surveillance system, it is a different story. In this case, the system fan appears to run at a default speed of 40% (about 1756 rpm). Not only this, there is an additional hard disk fan, which users report as being noisier than the system fan. We recommend placing the device away from where you are working if you wish to use the video surveillance capabilities with an onboard hard drive. The fans remain on even if you install an SSD. Some users have reported that they disconnected the hard drive fan, saying this makes a big difference. We presume, however, that such action will invalidate any warranty. If you don’t need PoE-enabled Ethernet ports at all, the UDM-Pro will probably be fine. But do note that its WAN Ethernet port is limited to 1 Gigabit Ethernet. What really matters are these three categories, and the differences between them: Standalone, Independent UniFi Gateways Port forwarding is an essential feature that can help in many different cases. It enables you to access any device or server that is hidden behind private networks, routers, firewalls, NAT, or CGNAT.

Designed for convenient monitoring and complete management of your camera surveillance system, the UniFi Protect Controller allows you to set up, configure, and monitor your UniFi cameras using a graphical user interface. You can install it on the UDM Pro (only when an HDD, not included, is installed), and there are no separate software, licensing, hosting, or support fees. Features
