Jo Lauren’s Force Free Gundog book is good, I’ll dig out my copy and see what there is for puppies there. We had an excellent first night with our new Golden, I think in part because I’d read this first and felt confident in my methods and communication with her. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. The reality is rather more like this: Have your pup dancing around on the lead at all angles like a fish on a line. Force-free training is a relatively new arrival in the Gundog community, and the books were written several years before this change was made.

This book will help you to raise a happy and healthy gundog puppy, and to prevent and solve any problems that might crop up along the way. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. Next up is, “How to Help Gun Dogs Train Themselves, Taking Advantage of Early Conditioned Learning” by Joan Bailey. It is wire-o bound meaning you can flick through and then turn the book back on itself so you can manage it easily when out in the field. My advice for good HPR books is to read a few books on pointer/setter training, a few books on spaniel training and a few books on retriever training.Regardless of what you plan to do with your pet gundog puppy, from lying at your feet in front of the telly or taking him shooting, the basics are the basics are the basics; and the basics apply whether that’s a Springer Spaniel, a German Short-Haired Pointer or a Labrador.

The text is accompanied by line drawings and photographs all of which amplify the various points made by the author.

We have a few spaniel books and a few retriver books, the husband has never felt the need for an HPR specific book before, but then again, we've never had a dog like Bella before! The pup immediately looked up at the bowl, exactly as described in the user’s guide, but hup didn’t follow, and there was no troubleshooting section. Ben covers every aspect of owning a gundog, including housing, training, troubleshooting, nutrition, health and exercise. First published in 1924 as "Dog training by amateurs", this is still widely recognised as one of the best and most valuable gundog training books ever written.
