Jo Lauren’s Force Free Gundog book is good, I’ll dig out my copy and see what there is for puppies there. We had an excellent first night with our new Golden, I think in part because I’d read this first and felt confident in my methods and communication with her. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. The reality is rather more like this: Have your pup dancing around on the lead at all angles like a fish on a line. Force-free training is a relatively new arrival in the Gundog community, and the books were written several years before this change was made.

My advice for good HPR books is to read a few books on pointer/setter training, a few books on spaniel training and a few books on retriever training.Regardless of what you plan to do with your pet gundog puppy, from lying at your feet in front of the telly or taking him shooting, the basics are the basics are the basics; and the basics apply whether that’s a Springer Spaniel, a German Short-Haired Pointer or a Labrador.
