Using the name Foo Fighters in an attempt to embrace anonymity, Grohl’s first recordings stirred enough label interest to necessitate a stepping out from the shadows. Not to be confused with "Our Best Songs" or "Our Favorite Songs," it is a collection of the songs that have defined our band's identity to most people over the years.

The presentation is incredible The sound is a tad compressed in some minor areas, but overall nicely mastered.

Three singles are included from 1997's The Colour and the Shape album (" Monkey Wrench", " Everlong" and " My Hero"). Some songs sound perfect, while others sound distorted to a point where it's just not pleasant to listen to anymore. You can find Foo Fighters' evergreen hits like 'Everlong,' 'Monkey Wrench,' or 'Learn To Fly,' and of course the masterpiece 'The Pretender. Grohl has also mentioned that he felt that the album did not include some of the band's best work and that it was "like a CliffsNotes version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years".

So, the title Greatest Hits delivers what it promises - top-notch Foo Fighters material bundled on one disc. I've noticed this newer records also have thicker cardboard and a stronger spine (if it's gatefold) than the old records, a nice touch that should help avoid your new records ending up old and battered like your parents records (if they're anything like my mum's albums anyway! Over the course of a full album the Foos can drag – 1997’s The Colour and the Shape may be the exception – but here the four-piece never allow attentions or affections to wander.Dave Grohl has stated his displeasure with the release of a greatest hits album, stating he would have preferred to wait until after the band had retired. Unusually long - namely 14 years and six albums long - the Foo Fighters have taken their time to release their first best-of album.
